really, how many miles/kms?

my fuel pump went out within less than a year of me owning my 2014 ram...

needless to say I was upset, mine stayed running but the dashboard was throwing all kinds of errors saying fuel system failure and all of that, that truck has since been sold and I went back to a 3rd gen!

That's crazy for a pump to die that early.

I know. I've hardly ever let the gas tank get below a half a tank of gas, and never below a quarter tank.

my son kills fuel pumps. He never fills his tank. He just throws $10 in at a time, then wonders why the fuel pump dies.

guys.... running the fuel tank low (to a reasonable extent) does not stress the fuel pump. 1/4 tank is far from an unreasonably low amount of fuel.

Its a stock truck, not a return style drag car. If you are getting gas before the light comes on, or even shortly after, its fine.

whether it hurts the pump or not is not my concern, I ran out of gas once and filling up before the half way mark ensures my OCD ass wont ever do it again, if it makes the pump last longer then great, if not then no harm done

I always heard running them low for extended periods of time makes them heat up and can shorten life.

That this is coming from GM cars so not is RAMs are prone to that like GM pumps.

Yeah, that was my understanding too. There are actually a bunch of articles out there talking about this.

Living in Buffalo, NY with the crazy ass lake effect snowstorms, I've got used to never letting the tank get below half. You never know how long you might be stuck on the interstate in feet of snow. In the summer months I just stick to the same routine.

Trucks back and as good as new!!! While it was in the shop they also did the steering wheel recall, a couple of PCM and transmission updates.

They said this is the first truck they've seen that had the fuel pump go out this soon.
