Hey Ram Bros.

I recently got my first Ram. I'ts a 2014 stock 4x4 with the 5.7,. It's the first V8 I have driven in a long time. At idle I can just barely feel the engine idling. It's very mild and barely there. I figured it was just because it was a V8, but Ive heard others say that at idle it is supposed to be totally smooth. It's very slight, nothing like old V8's that I've driven.

Any input in your experiences would be great.

I haven't been in a '09+ Hemi Ram that didn't have a tiny bit of a stumble at idle, including several brand new ones. I've always figured it was the low idle speeds.

A couple reasons for that, fuel injection, mild cams, and restrictive exhaust’s, etc, etc. I’m sure there’s other reasons at play.

It rests at about 550 rpms.

That's about right. No broken manifold bolts and no lifter tick = quiet idle. It's the engine keeping it's cool and storing energy for that WOT so it can scream as loud as it can! lol.....

Thanks. It seem like I hear a tick sometimes at various rpms. Is there definitive answer to the hemi tick? Ive read alot of things that said its just the way it is.

I have an 11 Durango R/T that has ticked and idle knocked since about 40k miles. Took it to get looked at twice and both people said it was pretty standard with that engine. Before that I had an '06 HEMI Charger that idled so low it cut itself off a few times. I was young then so I just started it back up and ignored it.

Well, I can't speak from 100% experience, rather 50%. I start it up and it ticks, broken manifold bolts and I know because I can see it rattling on the end of the manifold, plus the noise coming from it. Once it is warm, no more noise. Conclusion, no issues inside, just outside!
