Hey guys, i was wondering if someone knows how to help me, because i just bought (yesterday) an almost new 2017 ram 2500 5.7 hemi with 3k miles and a very basic package that i don’t mind, in fact i love it that way. So, yesterday night i was looking at the engine bay and after some time (i needed to move the truck under the garage to see inside of it) i realized that the truck didn’t have the under-hood light as my dads 2015 6.7 Laramie, so i started to compare the 2 bays and i saw that my truck didn’t have the plug that sits near the corner of the passenger side, so my question is if i could add a complete harness to make it work or if im screwed and need to get an aftermarket kit?????

I would really want to know, thanks

The factory ones are easy to install but I opted to do an aftermarket kit anyway. They're better in my opinion.

You could run a push pin style switch mounted to the fender and run the wiring yourself.

I thought about it but got scared because the weather and the water, or in that case it doesnt matter?

That's how I hooked up mine 4 years ago. I haven't had a single issue. The durability and quality of the system depends on the installer, Take your time, use good materials, solder and seal everything, you should be good to go.

Has anyone found a way to give the OEM light some better output? I know is has that weird sideways sitting light in there which isn't ideal.

I wired mine with a pin style switch that came with the kit. I even used a factory hole.

I've been in plenty of rain and snow and salt, and, no problems.
Here's a link to the kit I got, highly recommend it.

Get creative. LEDs are cheap, bright and draw almost no current.

Pics of what you do, please. [emoji41]

BTW, I tried a VLED 561 festoon, and the metal base next to the wire was too fat to fit in one side of the fixture. So it will not work.

That’s a nice upgrade from the stock one. Might have to jump on this one.

Wow! I got the twisted LEDs that I ordered from the link above and installed one. Quite a substantial difference!

Before and after.
