Damn, glad you are ok. I drove a semi for awhile, and I had to blow a stop light in the rain once due to timing of the light and all that. That was my biggest fear, luckily mine was in the middle of no where and the one guy saw me and knew I wouldn't be able to stop.
If there had been some adverse driving conditions like that, I would have been more careful, and so probably would have he (I hope). I understand that a loaded semi can be a bear to stop in adverse weather, and he had a trailer full of hogs.
However, in this case, it was a sunny day, low forties, no ice or snow on the road. And he wasn't planning on slowing down, judging by the speed he hit me at (speed limit is 40). What bugs me is my light had turned green, and I wasn't racing anywhere, so it took me a second to react and accelerate. So he should have seen the yellow, and then a red, a long time before as he approached the intersection.
He did manage to get the semi stopped... about a block and a half down the road from the accident. I met him shortly after, and he seemed like a decent fellow. I was so glad to just be uninjured at that point, and still in shock I think, that I wasn't even mad at him. I am guessing it may have been a case of distracted driving.
I would most definitely want a new truck out of that, either way I am sure it is totaled out.
Yeah. I really liked the truck a lot, but with that much damage, I don't think it'd ever drive the same.
The people he works for have American Family insurance, so hopefully they'll treat me fairly. We shall see. I called American Family to file a claim a few hours after the accident, and they told me that he hadn't reported it himself yet, and until they talk to him, they cannot move on it. Hopefully he follows through and does so. If he doesn't by tomorrow afternoon, I will be seeing what my insurance can do to push them. A police report was filed, half a dozen witnesses on my side, and the officer did tell me they wrote the guy multiple tickets.
Thanks again for the support guys.
