My 2018 has developed random issues with the key fob. The truck has push button start and passive entry. Here is what happens, sometimes, but not all the time.

If a passenger opens their door, the truck immediately thinks the key fob has been removed. If I open my door with the fob in my hand and then close the door, the message goes away. Simply open and closing the driver's door will not resolve the message. The fob must leave the inside of the truck and come back in. Sometimes, it happens if I open the driver's door. But mostly when the passenger opens the door. This happens 1 out of 15 door opens.

The other random issue with the key fob is the passive entry. Sometimes, the door handle will not respond to touch. This is like 1 out 100 touches to the door handle. I use the button on the fob to lock the truck and the passive entry works again.

And last, when pressing the button on the door handle to lock the truck, I sometime have to press the button 3 times before it will respond. Again, this doesn't happen all the time, but is more frequent than the other two issues.

I have a new battery in the key fob. Anything else I should be looking at?

I had something similar happening with the wife's challenger. Within a day or two after proximity started having issues, the hud would say damaged fob when i pressed the start button. I was 450 miles from home when this happened.

Unlock/lock would still work on the fob. Ended prying the start button out and the fake key end of the fob would at least start it when I turned the key. Replaced it with a new oem key fob when I got home.

Not sure I am following because my fob does not have a fake key end. I also have never seen a damaged fob message in the EVIC.

But replacing the fob corrected all the issues for you?

Yes a new OEM fob fixed my issue.

Was the fob in your pocket with other stuff? If mine is in the same pocket as my cell phone, it won't unlock the truck and the EVIC says no fob present when trying to start. That being said, I had a different one completely quit and used alfaobd to kill that fob and add a new one.

No, phones are too big now and require their own pocket. I put the keys in the center console when driving.

I might switch fobs with my wife and see if I can isolate to a single defective fob.
