I think that your statement can not be correct ??

Say for instance , 3 trucks with 20" tires, all tires are 33.5" tall.
Each Rams transmission is identical

Truck #1 has the 3:21 Ratio Ring & Pinion
Truck #2 has the 3:55 Ratio Ring & Pinion
Truck #3 has the 3:92 Ratio Ring & Pinion

All 3 of those Ratios have been available in every 1500 Model Ram for several years now.

Almost every 1500 model Ram can be ordered with
20" wheels

The reason that they 3 axle ratios, like Towing/Power/ & even Speed advantages
Huh?

He said he had 20” wheels.

You said going to 18’s would make a difference.

But it wont, unless you change the tire size.

And, the OP has a 2500 (not that it makes a difference in tire size-to-gear ratio).

That might of been what GTYankee meant, at least that's how I interpreted his comment.

I think changing tire/wheel size would be an avenue i would explore since re-gearing two diffs is going to be very expensive.

Your truck does Not have a tru-lok, it may or may not have a limited slip rear though.

I highly reccomend talking to a shop that has experience doing Ram HD trucks, From what I've seen it's not an easy swap and can be quite expensive on these trucks. Not as straight forward as some other brands (from what I have seen and read anyway)
If the diffs are still Dana, they are some work, but not too bad.

If you can do it yyourself, parts cost isn't bad, about 1600 dollars. If you want a shop to do it these days you are looking at anywhere from 4 to 6 grand, depending on local labour rates. I had a buddy who just got quotes from 4 shops, that was the quote range.

Going from 275 70 18 tire to a 275 60 18 with 3.73 gears gives you the equivalent of going to a 4.0 gear set. That is just how little of Screenshot_20250604_134254_Firefox.jpg a change in tire diameter is needed to affect the overall gear.

I get that. But he was just saying going to an 18” wheel would help. It wont do anything if the overall tire size is the same.

Why do you want the 4.10s? It's going to be a lot of money for not very much change in driving since you have the 8 speed. Even if you had the 66rfe the cost to go from 3.73s to 4.10s wouldn't be worth it in my opinion. 4.56s or a bigger jump in gears would make for a lot better driving experience depending on how your truck is used and what tires you have.
I did a gear swap on my 2016 & it made a big difference but that was with the old 6 speed tranny & I went to 4.56. Like whats been said that is a lot of money for not much difference if you go with 4.10's.

Seems like a good calculator.

What the link to that calculator?
