Has anyone rewired the high beams so the fog lights stay on? If I hit the flash switch it follows my desired behavior.

Look info Alfa obd. No wire hacking required.

Be aware, that is illegal (at least is in Virginia), I failed a state inspection because my fog lights stayed on when they checked my high beams. From 2008 to 2016, never failed an inspection and then I went to a different inspection station 2017 and they failed it.

Yea. Fog light dropout can be disabled “for off-road use only” and is very helpful going through the woods. Most states have a rule on how many lights can be actively lit facing forward which is why the fog lights dropout with high beams.

Are you sure? This would be useful in other ways too.
Absolutely. You can also Change to led/hid lights without the Goofy aftermarket harnesses. Add factory things to your vehicle like backup cams and stuff like that which would normally be a $100+ dealer visit for a reflash.

I've disabled fog light drop out, with AlfaOBD using an $11 Veepeak OBD Bluetooth adapter.

Just make sure you aim your fog lights properly or you might get some irate oncoming traffic. I see more mis-aimed ones than properly aimed ones. My buddy was a cop and back in the day you could do ride-a-longs pretty easily. Equipment violations like that really annoyed him since it caused a hazard to other drivers. Plus it was a great "reasonable cause" to pull someone over and write other violations. Also, fogs have no sharp top cut-off that is why it is illegal in many states to have them on with the high beams because even when carefully aimed they can throw too much light up high.

That almost makes sense but it doesn’t. Fogs have cutoffs. It’s required in order for them to pass DOT testing for road safety. If they were not safe for road use they would not be allowed on vehicles and would not be installed by manufacturers. Maybe older vehicle fog lights were worse but technology is much improved.

One other thing, from OEM, they are set up to only work with low beams on, not high beams. When you use your high beams, you (should) never use them when there is a car in front of you or oncoming (unless they are really far away), so poor cutoff of a fog light shouldn't really matter.

Yes, I see what you mean re: vertical cutoff. Then perhaps the folks that nearly blind me (and use to annoy my friend) and other drivers are not using fog lamps and / or do not have them aimed properly.

Im sure a lot of people with lifted or leveled trucks forget to re-aim the headlights and fog lights. I’ve readjusted both on my truck. Plus I’m running pod lights for my fog lights. They are SAE/DOT approved lights for use as on road fog lights.

I'm not legal by any means but I sure can see when I need to. The thing that keeps everyone from bugging me is mutual respect. One set of lights on when coming at traffic unless ur a weisel then you get more as needed. [emoji6]c5146d08aa8814e6ee6d6697ba0d8d9a.jpg

Fog lights have an excellent cut off!! they are designed to attempt to look UNDER the fog not through it hence why they are linked to lowbeams! But on that note more light on high beams the better, are we not required by law to dim our lights at a reasonable distance following or approaching? so a properly aimed fog light (yes they are adjustable “surprise”) will not be to bright
