I'm wanting to put HID's in my 2011 Ram and am having nothing but issues. I thought they were good to go when I first installed them but came to find out they only worked with the key OFF..they flickered and went off after the truck was started. Ok fine I see that's a typical issue with them so I bought the relay harness and wired them directly to the battery today. Well I go to test them and they do the SAME thing..You can actually hear the really clicking and the light start to flicker and then go off...only with the engine running. I don't get it. I even tried it with only 1 side having the HID and the other having the stock bulb thinking the stock bulb would provide whatever resistance might be need that the relay is lacking..nope same thing, flicker and then nothing. I called a local shop that does lighting "The Finishing Line" and they said they stopped doing dodge trucks for just this reason. Anybody have any ideas..better yet not ideas, has anyone actually done it and had it work ? My next thought is buying the cancelers that plug in the line .. but I thought the relay was suppose to cure all those issues ?

You are going to need to get a set of CANBUS ballasts. Ask wherever you got your HID's from if they have any. Pricey, but they do the trick.

I was afraid somewhere down the line things would get pricey .. trying to avoid that. I took these out of my last truck..a 2006 F-150.. and just picked up a new set of dodge bulbs so the cost was minimum ..then the harness...now I'm thinking of buying the CANCELLER .. but even those aren't a sure thing. Not to mention some say all you need is 1 canceller if your running a relay harness since your power input is only off one side...and others say no you need 2....and others say with the canceller you don't need a relay harness just plug a canceller in each side.......they sure make it difficult

We just did HIDs in my 11 yesterday for lows and fogs...fogs worked fine plug and play but lows I had the same issue, fine when truck was off but when running they were real dim and constant flicker. After some research we decided to try running 2 capacitors (1 per side) and that solved everything, no lamp lights on either. Gave it a good hour test drive last night and no issues at all. Pretty cheap fix, heres a link to the capacitors we went with:
Radioshack - RadioShack 4700uF 35V 20% Axial-Lead Electrolytic Capacitor

I actually went up to radio shack the other day but radio shack has changed...they didn't have any do it yourself parts...it seems they turned into a cell phone and electronic toy store....maybe I'll go look again...thanks. I just put it all back together for the 5th time...my neighbors think I'm nuts always working on this thing...heck I only bought it 2 weeks ago :)

N1ck....did you buy ONE for the power side (if your running a relay harness) . . or 2,one for each ballast ? With the relay kit you don't use the power connection on the one side, you run both off the relay with only one power connection used to trigger the relay.

In all my kits I just ran a 35watt cheap hid lot from vvme.com with no extra harness and ran an error eliminator on both sides.

I had HID's in my truck and thought they were "cool" and all, mine flickered also and finally figured out that the pigtail on each light was not needed and all was good after that. Then came the day that HID oncoming lights started to bother me as far as blinding me and I had my wife drive in front and come towards me in my truck and quickly realized that I had been blinding folks also. The very next day I get pulled over for speeding, but it happened to be at night and the officer wrote me up for speeding and my HID's so needless to say I took them out and will never get another set. Now when people come at me with them I just hit em' with the light bar.

Yeah HID's can be pretty irritating depending if they're pointing down the road or pointing at you. I'm up in the air on mine.I had them in my other truck and they were fine...I got pulled over once in the park but it was for the amount of lights..i run 6..2 headlight,2 fogs and 2 DRL behind the grill..and believe it or not the law say no more than 5...FIVE an odd number...the cop was cool and asked me to turn of a set of them which I did... anyway in the meantime I put in halogen 6000k super whites in both the low beam and fogs.. If it weren't for the fact I already had the ballast from the old truck..and the new set of dodge bulbs were only 10 bucks I don't think I'd be going thru all this,I'd stick with the halogen instead.
The dodge HID's are going to be a little brighter than the fords because the dodge bulbs are 35w and the ford bulbs AND ballast are 55w. Running the 55w ballast with 35w bulbs makes them a little brighter...and in the long run cuts down on their lifespan...but we're talking instead of 10 years they may go out at 6,no big deal. But if I don't get this figured out soon I may end up selling them(the bulbs) and buying HID high beam bulbs.

Need either canbus ballasts, anti flicker capacitors as shown, a canbus relay harness or anti flicker/warning eliminator adapters, jj at the retroshop can get you up and running

Post your results, I bet this will cure the flicker issues :)

x2. That is all you need.

I run some HIDs I've had for over 5 years. wiring harness and anti flicker eliminators. Not one single problem.
