I have an 09 1500 4x4 with 176,000 miles on it. Just last week I started hearing a sound that I could only describe as the sound when you have badly cupped tires or true mudders. I checked my Toyo ATs and they seem to be OK. I stopped by my dealer and they took it for a drive. The mechanic was thinking pinion bearing but will have to wait until next week to look into it. It only seems noticeable at speeds over 20 mph and increases/decreases with speed. He is pretty sure that it is not a wheel bearing.
My small research makes me think it may be the carrier bearing. Anybody ever experience this?
Good thing is I have the lifetime powertrain warranty. It covered the pinion seal when it was leaking, so I am pretty sure this will be covered. This is my first real problem. I had the famous exhaust manifold bolts covered as well as my 4x4 actuator.
