I don't have that particular one but I have the Weather Tech bumper step which provides some bumper protection and it's not as expensive. It's made out of a tough plastic and will take a light hit and flex.

Worth considering...never mind, I just noticed you already ordered the Super Bumper.

I have a go rhino bed step. It's larger like the super bumper, comes in black/textured black/chrome and looks good...

I could see the super bumper working well. Not sure if the thing is a hollow steel tube but that would be the only weak point.

about 15 years ago, I had a Tacoma with a Yakima hitch bike rack. That rack was a solid hunk of steel - unlike current hitch racks. I was rear ended when stopped at a red light by an Infinity J30. It CRUSHED the J30 front end and the driver/passenger were carted off in an ambulance. Visually, my Tacoma was mostly untouched, I think one ding in the rear bumper. Only later, did I realize the impact actually tweaked my frame. the leading edge of the rear box hit the cab just below the rear glass leaving little dimples from the impact. The frame flexed I guess. The truck then ever-so subtly leaned to the left.

If there was some give to the hitch rack, maybe the frame would have been spared. But cosmetically (minus the cab dimples), the truck looked untouched.

I have one on my 2500 and have used the product on numerous trucks I have had in the past. Actually save me some damage when I was rear ended by a Ford Escape in my Tundra and had the Superbumper installed. Destroyed the front end of the Escape and only minor damage to the bumper itself with no damage to the frame or hitch point.

I have run my current black powdercoat one for the last three years and is just now barely showing a few speckles of rust but nothing really bad or noticeable unless you are right on it. The few scuffs on it now was me using a heavy braid rope to pull some rotted tree stumps out with it and was to laze to remove and put a D-ring shackle on.

While I cannot prove it to any scientific degree, but people do not seem to tailgate me as much when I have it installed.

Too me it looks kind ugly. I once got rear ended by a Silverado when I had just a regular receiver hitch. The Chevy got messed up pretty good and my truck was totally fine

I like this. Wonder how it'd look on Mine color matched....hmmmm
If you are going to repaint it, look for the untextured finish. It's slightly cheaper but the same design.

I just leave my WDH on. Had a lady in a Camry rear end me pretty good. Only a small quarter size ding in my bumper, but her car was in bad shape. When I pulled away from her it ripped her plastic bumper clean off. Support, radiator, AC condenser and numerous other parts were broke pretty good. I just kind of laughed.

Geez, my mind is in the gutter.......read the title and instantly thought "keep your back against the wall". I have thought about getting one of the steps/protectors, would make some things much easier.
