Hey guys, sorry but I have a stupid question. I was installing my nerf bars today and noticed a single shock mounted on top of the differential to the body. What is that for? never seen that before.

It is a pinion snubber. Under acceleration the axle wants to wind up, resulting in axle hop or axle *****. The snubber damps that motion.

why doesn't the mega cab get it? Is it because we are slightly detuned?

Maybe different driveline angles with the stretched version?

Yep, the longer the truck the less angle on the driveline. Less angle means less leverage.
Honestly though, that is another of Rams bandaid fixes. If they'd used quality bushings and stronger control arms this wouldn't be an issue...

That's true, but any live axle is subject to axle *****, even with leaf springs.

My 68 barracuda has a rubber bumper that bolts to the snout of the axle. I replaced it with an aftermarket adjustable bumper to control wheel hop.

Slapper type traction bars are the same. They both stop axle wrap that causes wheel hop.
