So I have some new tires coming from DTD and need to have them installed, and since I am up sizing I need to recalibrate the speedo/ecm. Dealler quoted me $135.00 total for installing new tires and recalibrating speedo/ecm. Does this sound like a good price or could I get it done cheaper?

It can be done with a tuner as well
That sounds like a lot for something that only will take them a few minutes

What size tires are you going to?
If the dealers recalubrating I'm guessing 285/70/17 which aren't going to throw your speedometer much at all ( moot noticeable except highway speeds might be 3-4 mph off)
It will be off by a percentage, the faster you go the more of a difference
Speedometers aren't very accurate anyway lol

that might be a little high, but it is dealer prices. Also without buying a tuner they are the only way to re-calibrate the speedo

Didn't notice that was for mount and balance too when I first read it
Idk what mount and balance goes for anymore, I want to say it was $15 a wheel the last time I had it done

they said 12.50 per tires to mount and balance the remainder is for recalibrating the Tries are 285/75-17. I had thought about the Hypertech system, but hadn't been able to confirm that it will work on a 2011 ram 2500 with ctd. I also didn't like that it appears to be required to remain plugged into the obdII port for the correction to continue to work.

If it weren't for the warranty I would just install and H&S and be done with it. I shot Hypertech an email hopefully they get back to me.

Unfortunately, the Hypertech Speedo Calibrator only works on the gas trucks. If you are looking for a great bang for buck tuner for your 6.7, then take a look at the H&S XRT Pro. It is what I am running right now, and I have been happy with it. It does not include a gauge display thogh which is why it is so much cheaper than the Mini Maxx.

ljvsnyder, are you planning to add any performance mods to your truck or delete the DPF/EGR? If you are not, then I honestly wouldnt spend the money on the tuner. Even though the dealerships price is high for the re-calibration, it is still cheaper than the cost of a tuner. If you do plan to do a few performance upgrades, then the tuner is going to pay for itself very quickly.

Yeah want to wait for warranty to run before I throw a tuner on. My truck has had several sensor problems. Deleting would probably fix these problems as they are all emissions related. If chrysler wasn't watching my truck I would probably just do it, but I have been flagged and anytime my truck is in for warranty a specialist has to be called before they will authorize the repair.

Oh and thanks for the comments guys.

Isnt that rediculous? The parts that you want to replace are causing the problems, but if you replace them, you lose your warranty. I said to hell with the dealerships, and deleted mine anyways. If you are only throwing emmisions codes, then getting rid of all that junk is going to make the truck run better, be more reliable, and your mileage is going to go up considerably. Your mileage is about to drop alot with the new tires. I lost 3mph going from the factory tires to my 35's. You might end up changing your mind sooner than you had planned.

The Hypertech Speedometer Calibrator 752503 is for the 07.5-12 Dodge 6.7L Cummins
Just looked in my dealer book when I returned the OP's pm .
It also does the following ...
Speedometer\Odometer Correction For Tire Sizes 22.5 - 44 inches
Read and Clear DTC's
Return Back To Stock
Internet Updateable

Hypertech’s Speedometer Calibrator can correct the speedometer and odometer for tires up to 54 inches (depending on the application), and/or non-stock rear gear ratios. This new device is engineered for consumers that want the speedometer recalibration functions of the Max Energy Programmer without the additional expense of the other tuning features. The Speedometer Calibrator comes with a USB cable and a CD containing software to enable quick updates and upgrades over the internet. For an additional charge, the Speedometer Calibrator can be upgraded to a Max Energy Power Programmer via the internet to include all the Max Energy features available for that vehicle.

Simply plug Hypertech’s Speedometer Calibrator into the vehicle’s under-dash connector, select the new tire height and/or new rear gear ratio, and in a matter of minutes, the vehicle’s computer is reprogrammed for accurate readings (as required by law)

IMO .. its a win win .. no more having to take it back to the dealer for calibration or code reading and later on down the line update it to a full programer.

Does Hypertech even make a Max Energy tuner for the 4th gen 6.7's? IMO, this part is just a bandaid. I completely understand it for the 11-12 gas guys that dont have other tuining options. I just think it is a waste for a diesel truck that has many tuning options that will correct the speedo while providing more power and all the other benefits that a complete tuner has to offer.

Yeah kind of expect the mileage to go down a bit, but I am only going to a 285/75-17, so less rolling mass than a 35", so the hit shouldn't be all that noticeable. I will update after I change them out. If the dealer that was doing my repairs was the selling dealer I don't think deleting would be that big of an issue, but since I bought elsewhere I don't think they would stand behind me on the deletes. Friend of mine bought his in Missouri and takes it there for warranty and when his DPF clogged they told him do the delete and as long as it didn't come in melted they would get it covered. But yeah all of my issues have been O2 sensors. Not sure where they are located but one was bank 1 and the other was bank 2.

LOL Ironic me and another member, fastnugly, are literally PMing each other back and forth. Hypertech offers a module for 160-250 dollars. You can adjust for tire size, and gear ratios, as well as read error codes for your own good. :) For a one time fee it is A LOT better than paying the stealership. Due to the fact that is can be used more than once.

And yes they DO work for the un tunable 2011-2012s. As changing tire size and gear ratios is node code locked :)

I can vouch that this works as I have it and was able to calibrate my truck to know there are 37's on vs the 33's
My mpg got better too....I guess the shifting points changed.
All in all, a GREAT investment.

heck, my ABS sensor went. I plugged this bad boy in and that is what it told me.
I took it to the dealer, told them what the problem was and 2 hours later, I drove off with the sensor fixed.

Now that my gears are changed and I have 38's coming in, I will once again use it to calibrate my speedo to reflect both :)

OP,
This is what you want
This can as Chaney mentioned, can calibrate your new size of tires.

Speedometer Calibrator - Part #752501

**EDIT** just realized you had a 6.7L.
This is for the HEMI, but it does work 100% - providing you get the right one

I dont think so but down the line they are supposed to be making it up datable on the 6.7's .

And I agree .. a full on tuner would be great and would give the OP his calibration plus some .. but your talking more $$ .
