In the family, we have a 2013 Toyota Tundra XSP-X 4.6L V8 and a 2010 4Runner 4.0L V6.

Both vehicles spec OW-20, and up til now have been fed Mobil 1 afaik. They are both noisier than I like, always have been.

I'm tempted to use RedLine 0W-20 from here out. I see it in a couple different part numbers, wanted some outside input on it.

TIA.

If you do their oil changes,i would try it with-out telling them anything, lol
Might just do that the next time around. The 4Runner is due now, but I already have the M1 on hand.

Tempted to do a mix of 5W-20 and 5W-30 the 4Runner takes 6qts. and the Tundra takes 8-1/2.

How many miles on these vehicles and what temperatures are they running in? I'd stay with the 0W20 in most cases. The only time I'd change the viscosity is if they were consistently running in an extreme heat environment. Those engines are noisy from day one. Didn't we discuss this on another thread?

SW FL. Yes, we did discuss the noisy state of these engines.

Was thinking out loud about if RedLine might be more likely to make these 2 a bit happier.

I'm getting ready to run RedLine 5W-30 in my Hemi for the first time ever.

Just for a baseline, and now that you have completed your recent rebuild, how
is your Hemi sounding these days? Curious to find out if you notice any
differences.

Here's when it was first idling after full warm-up and coolant fill:

Will post an update once I get it changed and the RedLine 5W-30 has been in there a bit.

Not apples to apples but the wife's previous rig was a mitsubishi outlander sport that was noisy from new. After it had around 150k and I started buying redline for the ram I thought I'd try it in hers to see if it would quiet it down like it did the hemi. I stuck with the recommended 0w20 for it since it had a lifetime powertrain warranty. Long story short ran redline 0w20 in it for roughly 26k miles in the outlander sport before we sold it and it didn't change a thing as far as smoothness or noise went.

I'd go to a 5w30 especially being in Florida.

Had to do a bit of running, so I'm gonna be a bit over 202k when I switch to the RedLine. Hope its ok, gonna be closer to 1k on this SuperTech 5W-30 conventional, oil looks clean right now.

Hit an interesting # today:

If you look, 5W-20 is going to be used anywhere outside of the US for the exact same engine. 0W-20 is an attempt at decreasing the "drag" of the engine for 4 years to save you a couple percent of MPG, so the 4-6 years the MFG's actually want you to "own" the car you have a lower cost of ownership.

Same reason as deleting the spare, and nitrogen fill on the tires. It saves a few grams/pounds, which means it saves you a tiny bit of mileage, which builds up, until the engine explodes. (See GM 0W-20 lawsuit.)

GM had machining issues on the crankshaft. A terrible final surface finish. Going to 0W40 was/is a bandaid.

I use Red Line in 0W20 wife's RAV4, it calls for 0w16 if I remember correctly. F*** that :hat:

And I even put Valvoline Max life in the transmission , because I don't believe in the Toyota unicorn **** either. And neither does a lot of guys on the Lexus forum. One of the Lexus Tech said that Toyota was using Valvoline Max life when they ran out of their own unicorn **** at the stealersh!t

Also put Amsoil In the diffs as well

Like usual OEM fluids are a scam :birgits_tiredcoffee

MaxLife meets Toyota WS (World Spec) and is good to go for that application. I have quite a few miles on the Valvoline fluid in various Toyotas/Lexus over the years, no issues. Agree, not paying dealership prices for their professionally dyed/rebranded unicorn excrement.
