Just a question as I have read on here of some having issue with regearing their front diffs.
Would I have any issues regearing a 2011 1500 Sport CC? Looking at going to 4:56 from the horrid 3:55s.
Thanks.

Op,

You might want to check in with Ram. The 11 had a campaign on the rear differential that ram rebuilt alot of them due to heat and lack of the hole in the differential cover where the rubber stopper is.

Mine was rebuilt at 7 k and a new diff cover was installed, this one with the hole and rubber stopper.

Apparently it was a cost savings move on Rams part to delete the rubber stopper. This resulted in an ineffective gear oil level and extra heat that damaged the clutch material.

This was for the rear, however reason I mention, if you don't have a rubber stopper in the diff cover, you might be able to ask about the campaign. Not certain it would help your cause but it might.

On the front my understanding is you have to drop it out, change everything as the gear is welded not bolted on.

Now I don't know if this is true or not, can tell you when they were rebuilding my rear, I asked about a gear ratio upgrade and the dealership said point blank, they would not touch due to the front needing to match the rear ratio and they were not willing to do the work.

Apparently their MO was to completely change the entire assembly if there was a problem.

My limited experience

You are good to go.......front differential changed in 2012......2012 up to 2017( not sure about 2018 up) have to get the 2006-2011 front differential for gear swap.

My rear has the fill/drain holes in the housing itself with nothing in my cover. I believe I’m good.

To bad you weren't a little farther west,i have a low milege (30,000clics) 3.55 geared AAM 8.25 front diff,i've been trying to get rid of for a few years now,if somebody came along with 200 bucks they could haul it away, lol

You will definitely enjoy the 4.56 gears. I have put 4.56's in every single Ram I have and have owned along with my 4.7 Dakotas. In my professional opinion I think any truck with a 45/545/65RFE should have a 4.56 behind it.

The RFE and the RE trucks are so much more fun to drive with a 4.56 gear. You can potentially see a little bit better city fuel economy with the 4.56 because you are not having to use as much of the skinny pedal to get these heavy a** trucks moving. You'll wonder why you didn't do the gears sooner. Good luck and happy gearing!

A lot of us Canucks have more high speed highway driving then city driving, lol.Take a look at Saskatchewan damn near as big as Texas, and just over a million people in the whole province, lol. Most Canucks are slowing down when they hit 70mph/110 kmh's,lol

Sask you can watch your dog run away for a few days and know right where he is.
Lots of highway driving here in Ontario, plus where I live I have 2 main roads and no stop lights and isolated!

I didn't know the steering wheel turned till I left Saskatchewan,i thought it was something you hung onto so you could shift your ass around on the seat after a couple hours of driving, lol. Used to be the best high speed province in Canada, wide open for miles on end as you could see the only other car on the road a couple miles away, lol.

You probably lose about 2 mpg if you are driving 70 + with the 4.56
Anything under that will be better or the same mph wise.
I also have the 4.56 with 6-speed & 35" tires which brings gear ratio down to 4.30
Much more fun to drive

How much do you think it loses at 75 mph or higher, where I am you pretty well have to maintain 75 or more to stay with traffic.I've been on the freeway between Calgary and Edmonton on a long week-end Friday afternoon with the cruise set at 150 KMH,or a little over 90 mph just to stay with traffic, and unless you're over a 100 mph, you're not going to get a ticket, one cop can't stop everybody, lol. It's along ways from anywhere to somewhere up here ,and speeds reflect that, lol
