I have a 2017 ram 2500 with a remote start. All the sudden remote start will not work. error message says canceled hood open. I replace the hood latch with a Dodge ran OEM Part. The remote start still will not work. Error message canceled hood open. Any ideas how to fix this? I have also tried bypassing the hood sensor with an ohm resistor (1k ohm) and remote start still not working. Same hood open error.

Along with giving you enough credit to not have the hood open, my assumption would be that the sensor which tells the computer whether the hood is open or closed is not working.

Could be an issue in the wire. Try tracing it back to see if it got messed up somewhere by rodents. Or if one the harness connectors has corrosion in it.

Even if your hood were all the way open, why would having your hood open not allow you to remote start the truck? What if you're working on the engine and you need to remote start it while you look/listen for something?

@Tulecreeper remote start is locked out if the hood is open as a safety, so the vehicle can't be started without someone physically "turning the key" in case whoever is working on the vehicle is near the drive belt/fan.

Can you bypass it, at least temporarily?
You can pull the starter relay and jump the terminals with a remote starter switch to turn the engine over with the hood open, but it won't start. To listen for bad bearings in pulley's etc.,you'd have to manually start the engine with the key while the hood is open. The engine will run with the hood open, you just have to do it manually, not with the remote start

Sorry, I didn't realize there was an actual physical "key' involved with much of anything anymore. I pretty much thought everything is either remote start, or push-button start. Although, now that I think about it my rental car in Buckeye, AZ 2 weeks ago had an actual key. Some late-model SUV. Kind of surprised me.

You don't need an actual key as such. It'll start with the hood open, the way you'd normally start the truck, with the push button start if that's the way your truck is equipped ,it just won't start using the remote start option on your fob.Sit in the truck with the hood open, and start it like you would if the hood was closed and you were going somewhere
