Remove Engine Cover

I wondered why they put a heat keeper cover on engines nowadays, our work vehicle, Ford Explorer has one too. I removed mine to cote the bottom side with stainless or copper foil as an RF shield and ground it, because i'm getting bad spark plug noise on my CB radio. In the old days I would just change the plug wires and add suppressors to reduce it. I installed ground straps on both sides of my hood but no change was noticed. Has anyone seen a stamped stainless cover for sale anywhere?

I fu...ng hate it! Hopefully this is the last day today, calling for 94 today but nothing higher than 84 after that in the forseeable future. I've lived here my entire life and it still sucks. I can't see for the life of me why anyone would want to leave someplace with low humidity even if you have snow for what we have down here. Sometimes I think it has more to do with money than weather. I would love to see some cold weather about right now!

I would love to see your kind of 'cold" all Winter long.
We don't have North Dakota "What the hell were the Pioneers thinking?" kind of Cold but we still get Cold.
Flip side is 41 degrees equates to Hoodie weather.

OP, I thought is was a good question. The ensuing debate for the most part, was OK with me. For my .02 cents, its been a place for rodents to shack up,and chew foam.The only benefit in MY situation would be possibly less noise transmitted inside. Currently it's still on.

I just searched on "rats" and found this thread. I went to check my oil today and noticed some debris sticking out from under the cover, and also noticed a bunch of the battery insulation felt was gone off the battery. Guess what......rats had taken all that felt, and some leaves, and other crap and made a nest on the passenger side of the engine, in and around the fuel injectors. Luckily, only one injector wire showed signs of nibbling......could have been WAYYYY worse! I yanked the cover and put it in the garage.....screw it. If I have to go into the dealer for warranty work (I have a lifetime warranty), I'll toss it back on. But seriously....the dealer shouldn't care either. It's 100% decorative anyway, other than possibly keeping excess dust off the top of the engine (and that's a stretch)...I've removed them on other cars also.

I removed mine and then painted it. Looked good so I put it back on and it’s been making my engine bay look better! No MPG gains or rats lol

Starting 12/10/2019, the DS (4th gen) is leaving the factory without an engine cover. FCA engineers state it has been eliminated.

Because of this, I can’t imagine it serves a purpose other than purely cosmetics [emoji848][emoji2369]

Definitely looks like something is missing, considering the 4th gen has had an engine cover since 2009.

Some of the earlier 4th Gens had foam insulation glued to the bottom of the engine cover Tim.I think somewhere around 2013 they started eliminating the foam,i know my 2014 doesn't have it.

I think everybody else is talking about the Hemi John,lol. I'd hazard a guess the Eco Diesal will probably still have a cover and the foam,as it's a noisy engine,but I might be wrong,as I haven't actually seen a 5th Gen Eco yet,or looked under the hood of one.

Gotcha! I missed that, my mind is on Ecos, it doesn't think Hemis
You are probably right. The Ecos will continue with covers and foam. Mine has been off for some time. I don't mind the sound and I like to have the engine accessible for inspections and cleaning. I believe the foam may enhance/boost the fires. In fact, it may contribute to the combustion, without it may only get smoke - who knows, just my thoughts.
I'm tuned and no foam so I don't mind waiting for the "fire fix" recall (EGR Cooler replacement)

My 2011 Ram 1500 5.7 out of Warren Mich (@Wild one ) has the isolated cover. lol
