My factory original Denso alternator died yesterday. I picked up a new Bosch from Autozone but noticed the new one has only two mounting points, both horizontal. My original Denso had three, 2 horizontal and 1 vertical. The stock number on the new alternator and from the Autozone website match up for it being correct. The two mounting points on the Bosch line up perfectly. I do know the 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 used two or three different manufacturers for the alternator.

My questions are:

Did anyone on here with a 4.7 have a non-Denso alternator as stock?
If so was it two bolt or three?
Has anyone else had this issue and will the one I bought be fine without the 3rd mounting point?

Thanks for your help.

How many holes are being used on your current unit?, if its two and they line up with the two on the replacement then go ahead and install it and don't worry about the extra hole.

Apparently the alternators at Autozone are redesigned to only be used in the two horizontal mounting points. I found a unit with three mounting points and put that on instead. If you run into the problem I did, there are three hole units out there. I found mine at NAPA.
