Hey y'all,

Just got a 2021 5.7. I live in an area where there are lots of squirrels. And i know this is going to sound ridiculous, but i think the squirrels have laid acorns somewhere in my engine or the like. When i accelerate and brake all i hear is a rolling sound. The best way to describe it is a marble rolling from one end of a room to another, with an abrupt stop whenever it reaches the far end. I'm going insane. This noise is new, and i have looked all throughout the interior to find the noise. It sounds like its coming from right below the steering wheel / floor board. I am not sure where to look anymore. Mostly because I've looked everywhere. Anyone have this issue or have any idea of where to look? Damn squirrels...... Thanks

Hey Chris,

Unfortunately you don't sound ridiculous at all. There are other posts reporting similar issues. I've been dealing with the same noise for the past 3 years with my 2022 Ram 1500 Classic lol. Mine is somewhere in the passenger side rear area. Nothing in the bed of the truck, it's 100% coming from either the frame underneath the seat or inside the truck. I've had friends sit in back and listen and pinpoint the same area, but I've been too lazy to rip out the rear seat and carpet and try to determine what it is.

My post from that thread:

"Hello!

I have searched high and low for a post like this to confirm that I've not been losing my mind lol. I have a 2022 Ram 1500 Classic, and have the exact same issue that the OP described. When starting to roll or coming to a stop, or taking a turn, it literally sounds like something is "rolling" in the back passenger area. I have nothing on the floor or in the door pockets, and nothing in the bed of the truck that could be transferring sound into the interior. I'm 100% convinced there is something physical rolling around inside the truck, but I can not find anything to save my life. The fact that you found a huge ball bearing gives me hope.

To the OP Brent, if you see this, would you be willing to describe to me in further detail on exactly where you found that bearing? I have the flip up rear seats, and there are recesses underneath each seat, but they're empty. Is there another location you recommend I check?"

Here's another thread:

We had a new Pontiac Transport van at a dealership I worked at that had a rolling noise as you described...someone thought it would be funny to put a ball bearing in the rocker at the factory...they had to take a hole saw to the inside of the rocker to retrieve that ball bearing (which was about 3/4" diameter). It had nearly eight feet of room between the wheel wells to roll back and forth during every start and stop.

Since you mention squirrels, look at the hood (the support/stiffening braces) as they got into those on my 90. And then look anywhere long enough to allow something to roll back and forth (like a rocker panel). Sounds like they stuffed an acorn somewhere.

Years ago I worked at a 10 minute oil change franchise. Used to see air cleaner, air boxes full of rodent nests and nuts quite often. Check your air filter!
