Hey all,
This last few weeks, my 2500 (4x4) developed this rotational squeak which i'm guess is coming from the front passenger wheel. It's there when I drive off in the mornings when the trucks been sitting over night. It goes away after a few miles or i just don't hear it because of the traffic noise.

At first, i thought it might of been my brakes. I changed out the brakes pads, all four corners. I've jacked up the truck and turned the wheels, and don't hear anything. I've sprayed lubricant on the axle u joints and it's still here.

After there any grease fitting anywhere there? or anyone with/had this?

Its a faint squeak (squeak, quiet, squeak, quiet) as I coast down the road.

Any leads i'd really appreciate, Thanks.

if its on and off as the wheel rotates im guessing its something with the brakes. my car had a slight on off squeel even with new pads. the noise dissappeared a short time later. probly was the metal tabs that hold the pads in the caliper. a bearing likely would be constant im thinking

When I changed the brake pads, I didn’t replace the clips because they were on nice and snug.

I’ll try applying the e brake slowly to see if that does anything.
Anyway to check to see if the u joints are bad? I got 40k miles. Is it common for those to go bad this early? I know anything’s possible, anything can go bad at any time.

Thanks guys

On occasion I’ve seen tires with developing tread separation that would squeak as they rotated under load. It only happens with the tire on the ground and loaded.

Whatever the cause, you could try having someone else drive while you walk alongside to narrow down the location. I’ve been fooled before by noises I thought came from one area but they were actually from elsewhere.

Did you shake the wheels (side to side, top to bottom, etc.) to check for loose hubs while was jacked up? From hanging out on this board I don't hear about many hub failures but they do happen.

Does squeak stop when applying brakes?
I had an annoying squeak that eventually got worse that ended up being a bad rear caliber, one piston was sticking causing a squeak and significant heat.

I always replace these clips, because it's cheap insurance. It's also a place where squeaks are very prone to happen if you don't put the silencer grease on both sides of them. Just a small smear between the bracket and the clip, and then a bit more between the clip and the pad. Keeps things nice and quiet.

If it changes or stops when applying the brakes, then it is probably brake related. Try lightly applying the brakes when you hear the sound.

I have a very quiet whistle/squeal with my 2500, new brakes (it needed them) didn't change anything, a new hub/bearing (it was borderline) didn't fix it. Can't figure it out yet, but doesn't seem to have any detrimental effects yet... Good luck with yours!

Doesn’t change when brakes are applied. These last few days, I was listening for it and was going to slowly apply the ebrake to rule that out. Didn’t hear the squeak.

The front driveshaft has a grease fitting that is supposed to be greased at every oil change. That's on the left side though so probably not your issue. Even though you sprayed it I'm guessing a dry u-joint in the front axle.

I got 40k+ miles and I’ve ever greased the driveshaft. The driveshaft did cross my mind.

i bought this from Amazon. Would any of these needles work for the drive shaft?
