Howdy folks,

The vehicle in question is a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4.

In 2015, my passenger front brake hose failed internally, causing that wheel to lock up. I replaced both left and right front hoses, calipers, and pads.

Today, 9 years later, it happened again. Unfortunately, hoses only come with a 1-year warranty, so I'm shopping again. This time I'm thinking of replacing the back brake hoses (left, right and center) along with the two front hoses. Am I being overly cautious, or is this prudent on a 20-year old vehicle?

I look forward to your thoughts.

Be well,
Mike

Like da boird said, replace them all. Rubber degrades over time. It's not like they're expensive, and since you'll be bleeding the brakes anyway it's a great time to do a brake fluid flush.

I'd be concerned why the front hose failed after only 9 years. What kind of brake fluid are you using?

interesting, isnt it ?

almost like his truck is putting out too much brake pressure or something
Could have been defective, maybe got hit by something, stretched-kinked when truck being worked on, soooo many possibilities.

NOW, with the sorry non QC parts supply, U be lucky to get a good part right out of the box, lol. (Think some of the trucks got this problem too)

Could be, but have you ever NEEDED to replace a brake hose?
I haven't

Not ever

This kid has it twice, on the same truck
That's quite the coincidence, once more and it's a conspiracy

But I agree "new" parts is a crap shoot

Replaced one once when ran over junk front end and stretched hose leaked at compression fitting.

at some time in the past .
Some one may have left the Calipers hanging by just the hoses,
instead of using wire or zip ties or at least heavy string

Never seen the point of taking 4 wheels down 2 tracks, thats what i got dirtbikes for

But it does sound like the reason for your brake failure was operator error

Yeah because I control what branches are hidden in the mudholes ;) And Full send it the only way to live.

Even my SxS was to much vibration for my nerve damage. And had to sell it :emotions122:

So instead of staying at home, I go have fun in comfort ;)

Thanks folks. The hose is undamaged externally. Looks fine. However, it is collapsing internally when I let off the brake, or at least that is what I surmise based on past experience. Will take some pictures as I start wrenching on this thing. The caliper could be frozen, but a cursory eyeball and "wiggle" shows it moving fine. Fortunately, my calipers have a lifetime warranty at the local parts store. Will keep you posted!

Thanks,
Mike

Dont forget there is a rubber hose on the rear lines in front of the rear axle.
