I'm trying to figure out the best way to run work lights under the rear of my truck, but I don't want them hooked up to my reverse lights as I'll also be using them for lights at night while at my hunting camp.

How much power wire do you think is needed? Gauge of wire? And should it be hooked with a inline fuse before it goes to the switch on the dash? I know I can ground it to the rear frame so that's not a problem.

Thanks for the help/info

The gauge of wire is going to depend on the size of lights. 18 or 16 should do LED's fine. Maybe bump up to a 14 or 12 for a halogen. I would suggest a relay and a fused circuit so that there isn't too much current traveling.

It'll be halogen lights. So I should do both a relay & fuse?

What would be the best way to run the wire so it won't get messed up with the elements?

You can run it with out a relay but I prefer to, to be safe. I would run the wires along the frame rail. But that' just me.

I added lights on mine bc backin up at night, with a lifted truck, and tinted windows is not a good time lol I got those work lights used for like tractors, etc. I mounted them sideways on each side of my reciever hitch. Ran a 14gauge wire from there into the truck through the firewall to a switch mounted down by my 4wd shifter on the bottom of the dash, then back out and directly to the battery so that i can use them even when the trucks not on.
