Dat Cummins!
The snorkel is pricey$$$$ but well worth the money! Gives you that little extra. I have not heard one negative review about the snorkel....other than the price.

It's not like there is a lot of choice, so it's either worth it to you, or it's not. The intake, scoop, a cleaning kit and shipping cost me $475 and I DO NOT feel it was worth it, but that's subjective and ya never know until you try.

I like the S&B intake, but am not a fan of the added scoop myself. If it faced forward then I would be all for it, but with it facing down, I don't see it being near as effective as it could be. I would just stick with the regular intake by itself.

The S&B is competitively priced with the K&N intakes, and much better IMO. At least it's an enclosed system and draws true outside air, unlike most of the others.
You have to decide if the extra scoop is worth it or not. Like any mods, it all depends on what you like and are willing to spend.

Speaking of the snorkel. What does it actually look like on the 1500s. I have seen them on the 2500cummins. I'm thinking about getting the snorkel for mine. And so far I'm loving the intake

Save your money on the snorkel. You cant see the 1500 scoop from the front of the truck because it faces down and tucks just behind the front bumper. It is pulling in cooler air than what you get from the fender, but it is not actually forcing that air into the motor.

Dang. I was hoping it dropped out below the bumper like on the 3rd gem cummins.

I wonder if by any chance. A man could make the scoop from a cummins fit the 1500 intake?

It just points straight down. My neighbor had the 3rd gen diesel snorkel, so I know what you mean, but they're different as night and day.
Once I get caught up on a few projects around the house I may play with fabbing more of an actual scoop for the back side of the "scoop".

You don't need no steenk'n scoop, just leave the opening unplugged.

Its low enough and far enough forward you're getting air that hasn't been warmed too much at idle and when you're moving its going to be pretty much ambient outside temp. :burnout:

True, but it's not SCOOPing much air. If you've seen the 3rd gen diesel scoop you'd appreciate how un-scoop-like ours is.

This is my idea as well. Just gonna have to make sure it doesn't stick down too low. Damn sure don't wanna suck up any water or dirt.

That's the difference that you want to decide on it seems. Go with S&B if you hit the occasional puddle or mild off roading so you can plug the bottom intake. If you want massive air flowing in then go for a Vararam.

Being 3rd gen, I can only go for S&B and do not regret it at all, well except buying a K&N first but I had never heard of S&B before then either. lol

Here's the Volant and scoop on my truck. Sticks out below the bumper and faces forward.

I've wanted an excuse to buy the t-rex lower billet grille since getting the truck; the scoop cold sit behind that quite stealthily.
