Scan tool that won’t break the bank

If you have an android, you can get an elm327 Bluetooth obd adaptor for 11 dollars, forscan ford specific for 5.99, torque pro I think was 8, I should be getting alfaobd soon for 50. Which should cover pretty much everything for ford Chevy and dodge.

I prefer the direct USB OBDLink EX for my Ram, But I use one almost identical to THIS for my other vehicles. However Alfa is the only option I know that can cycle the ABS

AlfaOBD's website states Dodge 2005-2021... my truck is a 2000.

Also, can a 3.9L V6 ECU be flashed to run a 5.9L? The last time I asked 10+ years ago the answer was no. Wondering if that's ever changed.

No. A V6 ECU has 6 injector drivers. To run a 5.9 it needs 8.
To add, just for example you can see this is for a V8. Notice it's a universal board so it had the capability upto V10.
You need to just find a 5.9 V8 ECU.

Just a heads up for you guys and to make the $200.00 sound like a great price. My scanner is a Snap On Triton D8, cost is over $8,000.00 plus $1,500.00 a year for updates. Also I learned on the last update starting in 2017 for dodge and others coming soon you'll have to pay $50.00 a year to a place for any scanner to work on it and others that start using it.

I use a tool I bought off Amazon called a "ELM 327 Mini" and any smartphone app. I've used Torgue - AlfaOBD - Auto Doctor and CarSys

Can you post a link, seems that some of the ELM 327 have quality control issues. Some do not work.

This is the one I used before I upgraded to the OBDLink MX+. Worked pretty well, but was somewhat limited in what it read when doing anything but the general codes. Used it with the TorquePro android program.

Remote installed. No extra costs to run.
If you want to view measuring values. This is your best option.
( i use it, with sgw bypass cable )

I do prefer Alfaobd, for now, on a laptop.

Oh so many scan tools to choose from. You can request lists of available functions for specific vehicles to help make your choice.

I've ended up with Autel MaxiAP AP200 and also JScan software using iCar Pro VGate plug-in.
