I got a 98 1500 with strange shifting issue.
While I'm in overdrive cruzing around 60 or 70 and need to speed up I press on the gas a little. That's when i get a vibration, like I am in a higher gear than I should be. if I let off the gass a little and hit it a little harder it will shift properly

So while cruzing at 65, u "press on the gas a little", and it vibrates, does it downshift? If its not downshifting, thats normal unless u give it moderate pedal.
"let off the gas a little and hit it harder it will shift properly" up or down? A little better description would be helpful here. How does it shift otherwise? My truck was similar trying to pass on the highway, mine was a combination of throttle valve pressure and the throttle cable being stretched.

Thanks mda,
While cruzing at 65 about 1500 RPM I give it a little gas it does not downshift, it actually luggs as if I am in a higher gear than I need to be in. The best way to describe it is if you are driving a manual transmision and are in 4th gear and you should be in 3rd and you try to give it gas you you get lugging on the engine. If I let off the gas a little and hit the gas a little harder it will down shift normally.
Normal around town everything is good. The only time it happens is if I am driving around 1500 RPM for a period of time and need to speed up.

OK, yes that sounds familiar. Like I said before, mine was a stretched cable, and the tv cable need adjusted. For the cable you can put a ziptie in between the pedal and end of cable. Takes up some slop. For the tv adjustment, pop the end of the cable of the hub and bring it out in front of hub. It should be within 1mm either way. Moving the cable back towards the rear of truck will increase pressure. Only move small amounts, 1/16" increments. The procedure is somewhere on this site if you do not know how to adjust it, or I can help you.

OD is controlled by the PCM based on tps and calculated engine load. The reason it doesn't lug after releasing the throttle is because the PCM unlocks the tcc on decel. I'm not sure how extreme your exact condition is but these do normally lug in the higher gears with the tcc engaged and don't kick down or unlock until 50% throttle or more
