Hi guys and gals,
I started to have this clunk sound, very minimal, when reversing from park only. Truck runs and shifts good. This little clunk started not to ago and wanted to see if this could be trans related (just rebuilt) or drive shaft?

thanks!

Are you parking on an incline or flat ground?

Check fluid level for too low or too high?

What did the rebuild include? Vb upgrades as well as solenoid and clutches?? You dont mean shifting into reverse, but actually driving in reverse?

Sorry,
Flat surface. The valve body was upgraded. All New high friction clutches/plates. I had the transfer case redone as well. I have never had any issues with shifting and this reverse minor clunk just started a couple days ago. Not to bad, but still there. I haven’t checked the fluids since a month ago. Truck drives and shifts perfect other then the minor clunk noise. I was wondering it maybe it was a driveshaft related as My buddies shop had the rear diff/axel torn apart a couple weeks ago. Thinking maybe something was loose? I haven’t gotten out to check the fluids but I’ll Do that tomorrow and that driveshaft.

Sounds like it's too much slop to be a gear backlash issue.

I suspect a slightly worn u-joint.

Very first thing I'd do is grab the driveshaft and try to twist it. See if there's play there. Warn U-joints are frequently the clunk causers.

Driveshafts are good, u joints are tight. Truck stopped making the sound. Reversing good with no clunk. Strange, my truck has been starting to make noises and throw out TIPM codes left and right in a span of one month.

So, becasue I saw a question about parking on a slope - I reverse park in my driveway and my nose slopes down. When I shift from Park to Drive; I get a very audible "click" and would like to know if that is common and what it might be? It doesn't do that any other time that when I'm on a slope.

Have you tried this? Set the parking brake before you release the brake pedal. Place in Park. Release regular brake. It doesn't/shouldn't allow you to roll forward or back and put strain on the trans after it goes into Park. See if clink goes away when you next depart.

My driveway is at an incline. I set the parking brake in N, before putting the trans in P so the parking brakes will hold the truck before the trans. I do the same with all my vehicles, any incline anywhere. No cluncks at all shifting from P to R.

If you put the truck weight on the trans without the parking brake and you're parked at an incline it'll be normal for the trans to make a clunk as you shift from P to R and I'd think that overtime the trans parking pin will weaken or worst.
