2013 dodge ram big horn 5.7 hemi. Is it normal for the tranny to shift a couple time going up small hill and does it hurt anything? I pull a 35.5 rockwood TT about 9000lbs loaded.

You want to reduce the number of shifts.

Is your truck equipped with a Tow/Haul mode? If so, use that. It will help keep the truck in the proper gear longer so it doesn't lug down and start shifting to make up speed and RPM.

When you say shift a couple of times, a assume you mean shift down one gear then down another gear as you are going up a hill. Yes, that is perfectly normal. I also pull a 9,000 pound trailer and I usually limit my 8-speed transmission to 7th and sometimes 6th in order to minimize downshifting if I feel it is doing it too much.
