I'd personally say no. Tradesman is a work truck, and it's going to have all the vinyl in the world in that thing. Good news is, you can basically wash it out with a hose. It's designed to be worked, and worked good. It'll do a good job working, but it's basically a budget truck. The v6 in the truck makes a little more power than your mustang, and it'll feel like it too. The pentastar is one of the best v6 motors you can get in a domestic vehicle imo.

Unfortunately, you're going to miss the mustang if you move to the truck. The only benefit you'll get is that you can haul some stuff. yes, that's good, but being that you like mustangs, you likey won't enjoy the amenities of the truck. If you can look at a big horn or maybe a better optioned SLT, i think you'd have a much better experience overall. You can get a SLT for the mid 20's.

So confused. I do this every time I get ready to buy a car and I hate myself for it. Now if it was a dark color I think it would be an easy decision.

Advice from a Old Fart ! I have a 15 Quad Cab with the V6, LOVE it and does what I want. NO Large campers to haul :) ,Also if you will be hauling kids then the Crew Cab would be better for the long haul ! As for the purchase it is your money so buy what you want and can afford! If you settle for less you may regret it ! Also there are a ton of RAM's For Sale with a good deal :) SO shop a little and you may find a better deal in your budget ! Also since you are thinking of buying a house in the future add that cost into your future truck purchase to be sure it fits , Wanting and needing something can make or break you by spending alot of extra cash ! I learned the hard way :O

BTD07 wants more info on the mustang... He’s asked several questions several times about it. Maybe he wants to see about buying it or trading for it. I think you should sell the mustang to BTD07 and go get yourself a Laramie Big Horn in the new blue color.
Or you can stick with what you have and be quiet. We’re here to help you make an educated decision.

I hear you about that! I appreciate all of the help guys. I was supposed to go get it today but they will have to wait till I feel more confident in my decision. I am a hands on type of guy and I always upgrade my rides cash. I don't like financing the upgrades it if I can help it. What I liked about Ram was a lot of what I love is plug and play like gauges, audio, or door panels...etc.

I think getting out of your car right now might cost you because you won't be able to get enough equity out of it. I would hold onto it for a while longer, buy the house, then after you buy the house, look into getting a truck.

Ok so I am still waiting for the truck I decided to buy or considered buying to be delivered to the dealer. I decided to look at other dealers and found this Tradesman. Since I love regular cab R/Ts you know what I was thinking when seeing this truck. The interior is nicer than the 4 door crew cab version of the tradesman also. Still it does not ride like a R/T which is to be expected. I decided to keep it over night and think about it further. Just thought I would share where I was in the process.

Hello All,

Currently I am driving a 17 Mustang but have tired of not being able to carry things around. On a whim I looked into buying a Ram truck. The guy offered me a quad cab 3.6 Tradesman for a little over 20K. After looking around I saw that I can upgrade the infotainment, gauge cluster, and wheels easily. I have two issue with the deal. The truck is white and I don't know much about the 3.6 Ram. What do you guys think? Does it sound like a good deal? Is it a good trim and model to buy? Thanks for the help.
Opinions will vary greatly, but consider that the Hemi will do (actual) fuel economy similar to the V-6; both are otherwise very good engines. Then there is the Cummins 6.7 TD... :D

As for 2-door vs. 4-door, my personal preference is the crew cab, so I can carry stuff more securely and also have room for the German Shepherd (the fold up rear seat cushions with the fold down shelves are perfect for that).

If you need to carry a lot of stuff very often, then a truck makes sense, but if you buy one and then have to add a couple of grand worth of extras (it adds up all too quickly), that can be a problem. If you have other expenses (i.e., buying and/or remodeling a house), then buying a truck my not really work out right now (but may be better suited for a bit later on). When I bought my Ram, I considered it to be mostly a "tool", necessary for pulling a camper TT over long distances, so I went with a better equipped Laramie. So far, it has been great, and I do use it is a sort of "daily driver", too.

Whatever you buy, you may have to live with it for several years, so do not skimp too much. I have seen people do this with vehicles, houses, etc., and they regret it later on.

If you "pull the trigger" (even at a good price point out the door at the end of the day), be careful to not shoot yourself in the foot (or the wallet).

Op it’s great to have options, but if you’re buying a house you may want to wait on doing anything that affects your credit score.

Well Since you're asking for opinions.

Owned 2002 Dodge Dakota SLT Quad Cab 4.7 for over 10 years, 16mpg is all it would do, loved it.
Traded 02 Dak for 2012 Ram Express regular cab Hemi, easily got 20mpg around town, loved it.
Traded for 2014 Challenger V6, loaded, easily got 23mpg city, 27 highway, loved it.
Sold Challenger, bought a 1999 Dakota Sport 3.9 V6 with 87,000 miles, 16 city 17 highway, drove for 3 years. Constantly fixing this and that. Still good transportation, sold it for a significant loss with $600 worth of parts needing to be installed, still loved it.
Currently driving 2018 Ram Express regular cab, V6 just over 300 miles so far, averaging 21.5mpg, mostly city, love it.

Bottom line, consider your wants verses needs. I'd still be happy driving the 02 Dakota, only had 70,000 miles on it when traded. The money I've spent would have also made a nice down payment on a house! The Hemi will almost match the V6 in mpg, long as you keep your foot out of it.

Actually looking back, should have stayed with 2012 Ram Express, very impressed with the build of the truck. 2018 V6 is plenty peppy, I am going to lower it, I am 5' 10" and the tailgate is almost shoulder high. Can't believe I don't have pics of 2012 Ram? I have a couple of the Challenger, my daughter took them and gave me printed copies, can't find the digital ones? Just took pic of 2018 Ram, going to get some before and after pics of it being lowered. Slack on my part...

Yes way to many to mention to the note of just under 3K in one year. that is out side of my monthly notes. Ok I will give you a little bit by saying the day I drove off the lot a random guy shot out the back window. Also that wasn't the only time I ended up replacing it and neither time was my fault.

Now I had decided not to keep the truck but on the way to work I felt better about it. The V6 is very impressive. It is smooth, fast when you get into it, and efficient. Financially keeping the Mustang is the best option but who knows what I am going to do. I will decide as I drive to the dealer when I get off.
