Hey everyone, I'm in the process of selling my sierra 2500 diesel for something a little less. I've gotten it down to a Ram 1500 and a 6.2 Sierra 1500. I have absolutely no experience with Dodge and wanted to see if anyone had experience with both. I will say that I have test driven 2 GMC's and there is a slight vibration at a stop. From searching the internet that seems to be a known issue. I know there might be a little bit of bias but let me know what you think

Some Rams have a vibration usually related to tires. I find the ram interior and ride nicer and more comfortable than Ford or GMC. Haven't driven a 6.2 so can't help with that.

Rams have a more sophisticated rear suspension with standard coil springs and Panhard bar, and optional air suspension. The Alpine stereo system in Rams is superior to the Bose in GMs.

I traded a then 1.5 yr old 1500 Silverado (2015) for my 17 ram 2500. I dont miss that pos gm junk one bit and I'm not biased at all. I'm a Ford man at heart.

I could talk to you for an hour.

-6 speed trans is a crappy shifting pos
- interior rattles already at 5k miles.
- 5.3 sounded like an director set when started in cold weather
- carpeted inner fenders caught all kinds of dirt
- stupid wax coated frame was losing chunks of wax already and rusting
- drivers seat got loose at 2k miles; fixed under a recall and still wasn' right
- body panels and hood was wait thin. Alum hood flexed visibly at highway speeds
- paint was not adhered well and hood chipped easily. This is a known issue.
-my truck didn't, but many have bad vibration issues at highway speeds. This is another widly known issue.

I could go on and on. I hated that pos.

I really like this dodge! It's not perfect but it' darn good. Enough so that it just may make me a MOPAR man in the end. I'd pass on the gm junk if it were me. My wife's 16 Equinox ain't bad but the drivers seat heater failed at like 18k miles. Not impressive at all! Junk!

I used to be GM guy,

This time around I decided I was going to give the the Ford and Ram products an opportunity for my business, after extensive test drives and research I bought the Ram over the Silverado and F150

The ride, fit and finish were just better IMO, but to be honest what sold me was how comfortable the drivers seat is and everything in the cab seems to be where it should be if you know what I mean

I encourage you to go for multiple tests drives, not just on the dealers ride around course. I think if you keep an open mind the RAM will earn your business.

At that point you will be ruined for life as not many jump ship once they have owners a Mopar.

It is also a lot of fun modding them and being part of this community :waytogo:

Here you can see the Siaara is a tick faster.

But that can be addressed, Matt is one of the site sponsors here , Moe Performance

Lastly, lets all be honest. The square wheel wells are just fuggly

this is what got me.... I couldn't believe how much nicer it felt to drive. Seems like they were trying to make the GM drive and FEEL like a car. I have to start looking at mods too. I've been in a diesel world for about 10 years ago and I'm clueless about gassers haha

The issue I had was the premium they charge for their trucks and I couldn’t find any reason for it. Yes the ls is well known and easy to mod but not worth the extra money. The ram rides better and is way more comfortable. Even my dad who has been a gm guy since he was a kid and actually owns a two year old 1500 days he wishes he would have looked at rams.

Yep the Silverado rode like a mid 70s large gm sedan, imo., agree also those square wheel wells did start to repulse me after awhile. Lol. Just the overall cheesiness feel of it. I gave gm a shot with the Silverado when I really wanted an f150. They are the same old gm they always have been. Going through the bailout did not improve their quality. They have the same issues I always rememer they did from the 80s on up.

I will say pay Particular attention to the dealer. IM not sure about your GM dealer, but Many of us here have enjoyed the purchasing experience and deals we got with Ram only to be horrified as to the lack of quality and customer service after the fact. Knowing what I know now, I would not have purchased my Ram and would have instead got a different brand based SOLEY on the service and warranty end of things. Unless your truck is on fire in the parking lot, EVERYTHING is normal. Ticks (Hemi tick) smoke at startup, shudder at take off, clunks in the drive train, clunk in reverse, rear end differential whine (loud) All is considered normal to Ram typically.

A lot Of this sounds like a dealer issue. The warranty has been one of the strongest I have had on any moose vehicle I have owned. Maxcare is great.

Have you tried multiple dealerships?

The 6.2L V8/8-spd is the only GMC I would consider. It is a slightly stronger straight line performer than the 5.7L hemi/8-spd which make sense given the larger displacement. If that’s what you care about most then go with the GMC.

If fit and finish, interior design and ride quality matters to you, I prefer the RAM brand, especially in the Laramie and Limited models on the upper end. I think they have a clear quality and usability advantage over any GMC. This is just my opinion of course.

GMC also supports higher row ratings with the 6.2 when equipped with the towing package when compared to the 4th gen RAMs, but the 5th gen RAMs are on equal footing. Best of luck shopping around! [emoji1]

If anyone is thinking about buying a GM, wait for this fall/winter when the 2019s come out. Square wheelwells are gone. The trannies go to an 8 spd (5.3) or 10 spd (6.2). Weight is down 450 lbs on crews. Better fuel mgmt. More rear legroom. Wider bed inside. Power tailgate. Too many improvements to buy one now.

After 3 Rams I decided to try a new 2017 Silverado Z71 LTZ double cab with the 6.2L and 8 speed. After 7800 miles I had had enough with the transmission shifting and sluggish engine performance (unless you put your foot to the floor)....hard down shifts at low speeds and hard upshifts at low speeds (GM dealer said yes, that is the way these 8 speeds are and there is nothing they can do about it). The engine, while plenty powerful under full foot, was sluggish in response to the accelerator. Again the GM dealer said that is the way the software is programmed, totally unlike the Hemi. Traded it on a new '18 Ram 1500 4x4 Crew Cab Hemi and the beloved 8 speed. Have not looked back.

I used to also buy GM trucks. Not anymore. I can’t see anything that would get me out of a Ram and back into a GM truck. Even with the new redesigns from both brands I’d still choose Ram without any consideration. I am actually getting more and more interested to see the new Ram HD.

Most people convert to Ram when they actually drive/sit in one and aren’t blindly loyal. They are nicely polished trucks, very comfortable and spacious and the Hemi feels VERY healthy low high or anywhere in between. The 6.2 is the only competition GM has to throw at the 5.7 Rams. The 5.3 always feels anemic. But that is their big take engine. I think I read the GM Ectotech’s (or whatever the hell they call them now) will now be able to run on as little as one or two cylinders? Run for the hills.

If you haven't yet, do yourself a favor and find a good MOPAR dealer near you with good service and sales reviews, and take a Ram for a test drive.

GM 6.2L recommended to run premium fuel (91 octane).

Ram 5.7L recommended to run midgrade fuel (89) many run regular.

Most my buddies are GM guys and a couple have the 6.2L. They ***** about the fuel mileage and the cost of filling it.

Actually it’s an unfair comparison. 6.2L vs 5.7L the 6.2 has about 30 more hp and nearly the same amount in torque. Unfair comparison

I couldn’t agree more. I sold my 2010 Camaro to get my Ram and I’m letting a friend buy my 2007 F250 from me.
You couldn’t pay me to have anything other than a Ram HD.
