Im happy to report that I FINALLY received my Skar 8" VD8-D2 and just installed it this evening and it is AWESOME!
I was a little concerned that it was going to be a total flop, and let me tell you - its CERTAINLY NOT like a couple of 12"ers thumping in the back with a 1000w amp, but I have to say it DOES give me some very nice bottom, real seat of your pants bass, and am pleasantly surprised.

So, the install was a straight swap from the factory 8" sub. I had to 3d print a 5MM circular spacer as the sub wouldn't fit 100% in the existing enclosure. It just BARELY fit. probably could have used some thick rubber around the edge or something, but had access to a 3d printer and let it do the job. There is a screw holding the factory sub in place with a rubber washer. (hence it left a hole in the enclosure that needed to be sealed up.) I just took that rubber washer and put a new screw and nut through the hole in the enclosure.

The speaker is 90 bucks on amazon... In my opinion - totally worth it if you wanted to do a relatively simple swap (keeping in mind you need to do something about the fit of the sub. - one thing I didnt think about is heating the enclosure with a heat gun or something to get it to mold to the magnet of the Skar. It really only needs to move a couple of millimeters.)
Also - I have the fold flat bed in the back - no clearance issues.
