Smoke and acts like its running out of fuel

07 ram 5.9 cummings started smoking when you first fire her up and has gotten worse over last couple of weeks. Then yesterday while driving her acted like she was going to cut off and chattering, check engine light came on and went out. Please help!! I have spent a lot of money on this truck to have such low mileage. Any ideas please

What color is the smoke, blue, white, black? Have you recently checked the oil to see if it has grown i.e. diesel in the oil?
