As suggested by someone here, I wanted to take the edge off the overpowering red of my tail lights so I smoked 'em with VHT Nightshade this weekend... did it right on the truck, just masked everything off. Turned out pretty good I thought, and smoked the Ram Emblem on the tailgate too.

The smoky appearance isn't easy to capture in the photo in direct sunlight, but it you look at the difference between the "4x4" logo and the Ram emblem, that's about how much shade I added to the taillights and 3rd eye.

Also took off the dealer's decal from the tailgate. Next step is to take off the 4x4 emblem, and both "Ram 1500" logos on the side of the truck, leaving only the Ram on the tailgate and the one on the grill.

Yes it is. A little bit "satin" really, not quite matte, but not glossy either. You can wet sand it to get it glossy, but I didn't wanna do all the work to take the lenses out of the truck, so I just put three coats of VHT Nightshade on em, and then two coats of clear coat.

think I’m gonna try the vinyl first but might go VHT if the vinyl doesn’t turn out good. If I can get the vinyl in my color code might use It over smoke.

transparent vinyl. With the use of high quality transparent vinyls one will be able to acquire the sporty and SAFE look as desired. There are many shades of these vinyls and can be applied to taillights and even headlights. For taillights there are two shades of smoked film, a lighter and a darker. For headlights and fog lights there are many color options to suit your needs including yellow, green, blue, red, and many shades in between. Not only can you colorize your lights safely and efficiently, it also restores your lights removing that old ‘hazy’ look!

Honestly I think I like the satin look in the rear. It doesn't effect lighting like it would on the headlights.

I did the vht thing on my on my 2005 brake lights years ago. Sanded the lenses and sprayed a couple coats. Gotta be careful not to do to many coats so the lights don’t end up too dark.

Yes. It says right on the can, 3 coats max, and that's what I did. One more coat would have been too many.
