The problem with EPA numbers is people interpret them as set in stone real world numbers.

In reality, they are nothing more than a tool, in this case for car buying comparisons. They are not real world by any stretch of the imagination. What they do is offer a baseline comparison to other models.

The biggest limitation the OP is experiencing is aerodynamic. Trying to compare a car to a truck is a fools errand. The faster you go in a truck, the faster the mpg will fall.

Sounds like the troll didn't do his research ahead of time. There is an entire forum dedicated to the Ram Ecodiesel.
He whined and cried with the same complaint(even copy and pasted the same post) over there too.
He's pretty much got the same response from both forums, if he wanted fast should have bought another Hemi.
There is a big difference in fuel economy if you keep your RPMs under 3K and under 75 MPH with the EcoDiesel. (keep in mind the the EcoD is past its peak torque @ 3K and the Hemi is just getting started at that point)

I saw that. Like I said, he should have done research first instead of believing some estimated fuel economy sticker.

I would take any bet on me beating epa numbers as to date I have a lifetime avg of 23.2 on my R/T. I had it up into the 24 1/2 range a month ago but felt giddy so hit the skinny pedal a little harder than normal. How do I beat the numbers, easy I hit the highways and might see 60mph but more than likely 55 is my friend, in the cities I use my eyeball and watch traffic instead of fiddling with the 8.4an, play with the phone (that's easy I don't own one), obviously do not text and lastly do not play with any electronic gizmos I am missing. If I see a red light a block away I am immediately off the gas, I travel at times while everyone else is working etc. Any takers lol

I have 11,000 miles on my 16 quad cab 4x4 Eco diesel. I track my mileage on fuelly and am a steady 27 US mpg, or 8.7 litres/100km for us Canucks overall. Lowest fill up to date was 22+mpg with pure city/shopping trips over a 2 week period. Highest fill up was pure highway at 29.9 mpg.

As for power, I suspect your experiencing turbo lag. Research gde tune. I don't have one, but I've seen a lot of reviews and they were all positive. Most people say its like a entirely different truck afterwards.

Wait a second, did I read his other post wrong. On 8/31/16 he is asking if getting the eco would be worth it and between then and now he shopped for the truck, purchased it and put 1000 miles on it and decides he hates it. Wow, if he is married I pity his wife.

Just another Agrats84 type. Signs up on all the Ram forums ******* and moaning when the problem is the brain that controls the accelerator pedal. Wants to compare it to European cars of all things. Probably doesn't own any of the listed vehicles and is just trolling.

Charlotte and Steph is more like it.[/QUO

How about i come to your house and show you my ecodiesel!!! and yes i did compare it to Europen cars. why does it matter where they are from?

Huh?? I've never known any vehicle to do even close to as good as the sticker... let alone better. MPG ratings are done under ideal conditions that you basically can never replicate. If you've ever done better you likely had a good tailwind or a broken calculator.

As for the power/speed thing, the newer diesels are choked down with A LOT of emissions and other crap. The HD Cummins drivers make similar complaints. The days of cranking out black smoke and screeching tires are gone unless you do major mods (along with voiding your warranty).

fwiw - 22mpg from a full size truck is pretty good mileage. That's 2-3X what they were getting 20 years ago.

Really ??

Every vehicle I have bought new has done better....and most of the ones I got used.

Tell me what my hemi is rated...I can & do get 22 mpg highway...and that is hand calculated too.

Maybe cuz yer being a dope and basically comparing a car to a real truck ??

She's probably having second thoughts about the model she chose too.

Just playing devil's advocate here but a good chunk of ramforums.com use their truck like urban soccer moms...

My recommended fix, as echoed by others... Try driving a tad bit easier, keep off the throttle when able and utilize cruise control if possible. Check tire pressure, and hopefully you will see some rise in mileage. I'm around 18.5 to 19MPG (5.7) and that is pretty much 80% back winding roads.

Well, I kinda do too.....use it when I am dressed up going to church, or similar, or when I just want to drive it, or for road trips in comfort........

and oh yeah, when I am pulling my 3500 lb boat or taking my 6500 lb camper somewhere.

But to respond your advocacy......doesn't matter, it is still a car vs truck comparison. One is a lot bigger, a lot heavier, has generally a lot more power, and gets a lot less mpg. Would be a poor choice for soccer mom hood honestly.

Most who use it as such, do so cuz they ain't got but 1 vehicle. Me, I got another vehicle for soccer mom type stuff....not as new, not as much power, not as comfortable, not as quiet or fancy, but it is smaller, gets a little less mpg, is easier to park, and I ain't worried about racking up the miles or door dings on it...and it is 4wd, so it works well in the winter too.

Bring it on over, buddy. And by all means, use the drive to learn how to operate your Eco Diesel in order achieve optimum performance out of it.

My '15 Eco Diesel is a quad cab, 6'4" Rambox bed 4x4 with 3:55 rearend gears. I leveled it with Bilsteins @ the 2.1 setting and put one size larger tires on it (34" instead of the stock 33"). It has a fuel economy rating of 19 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. I don't drive it gently, but I don't drive like it's a race to get from point A to point B either. I looked at my average on my EVIC just now and I'm at 24.9 mpg with 427 miles on this tank of fuel. I consistently get 28 mpg on the highway running 70-75 mph.

You can't compare it to a car because of the higher profile. Cars are designed much more aerodynamically than trucks, out of necessity and intended purpose. Just learn how to drive the truck. I traded my '12 Hemi Ram 4x4 with 3:92's in on my Eco Diesel. Best mileage I ever saw out of the Hemi was around 18 mpg on the highway. City was around 15 and combined was about 16.5. When I drove it like I stole it I got around 14-15 mpg.

I also tow a 7600 pound toyhauler on occasion. 8 mpg with the Hemi, 16 mpg with the Eco Diesel.
