I've been through several mufflers over that past 8 months looking for something that appealed to me both in loudness and sound quality. I've had Magnaflow, Borla, Spintech, Black Widow, and now Solo Performance. I've been through thinking I wanted mild, to loud, and have figured out over time that I want mild. Hearing a loud exhaust all the time gets a bit fatiguing for me and drone is not something I want to deal with any more.
I couldn't find a lot of reviews on the Solo exhausts on Rams, but what I did read and hear was appealing. It came down to Magnaflow 22" or Solo Mach 44. I chose the Mach 44 as I felt like the sound (though similar to Magnaflow) was a bit more open and raw....not quite as muted. I know Solo recommends the Mach 40 for just a muffler swap, but I was hesitant to put another 14" muffler on my truck as the others I've had were a bit too loud. So I decided the 44 was the better choice for me.....and it's awesome.
For those of you that want something a little louder than stock, with a nice deep tone and no drone, the Mach 44 is the ticket. After switching out from a much louder muffler, the Mack 44 seems very tame with a nice deep tone and very low internal cabin noise....exactly what I was after. Idle is like stock, but acceleration and overall operation is a bit louder. Quality is spot on and the muffler has a polished finish (which to me looks too nice to put under a truck). Customer service is great as well. I emailed Jeff with a couple of questions and he responded very quickly. It's a bit on the expensive side, but I'm very happy with my selection (thanks Nick for a good deal and fast shipping).
If I had to compare the Mach 44 to the other mufflers I've had, it sounds closest to the Borla Pro XS, but a little quieter (outside and inside the cabin). It's one of those mufflers where you can tell it's not quite stock, but it's not going to annoy your wife, kids, or neighbors. I don't have many miles on it yet as it was just installed yesterday, but I'm very happy with the sound, the volume, and the pleasant low internal cabin noise. Highly recommended for those not wanting a loud muffler, but wanting something with a little more attitude vs stock.
