I've been through several mufflers over that past 8 months looking for something that appealed to me both in loudness and sound quality. I've had Magnaflow, Borla, Spintech, Black Widow, and now Solo Performance. I've been through thinking I wanted mild, to loud, and have figured out over time that I want mild. Hearing a loud exhaust all the time gets a bit fatiguing for me and drone is not something I want to deal with any more.

I couldn't find a lot of reviews on the Solo exhausts on Rams, but what I did read and hear was appealing. It came down to Magnaflow 22" or Solo Mach 44. I chose the Mach 44 as I felt like the sound (though similar to Magnaflow) was a bit more open and raw....not quite as muted. I know Solo recommends the Mach 40 for just a muffler swap, but I was hesitant to put another 14" muffler on my truck as the others I've had were a bit too loud. So I decided the 44 was the better choice for me.....and it's awesome.

For those of you that want something a little louder than stock, with a nice deep tone and no drone, the Mach 44 is the ticket. After switching out from a much louder muffler, the Mack 44 seems very tame with a nice deep tone and very low internal cabin noise....exactly what I was after. Idle is like stock, but acceleration and overall operation is a bit louder. Quality is spot on and the muffler has a polished finish (which to me looks too nice to put under a truck). Customer service is great as well. I emailed Jeff with a couple of questions and he responded very quickly. It's a bit on the expensive side, but I'm very happy with my selection (thanks Nick for a good deal and fast shipping).

If I had to compare the Mach 44 to the other mufflers I've had, it sounds closest to the Borla Pro XS, but a little quieter (outside and inside the cabin). It's one of those mufflers where you can tell it's not quite stock, but it's not going to annoy your wife, kids, or neighbors. I don't have many miles on it yet as it was just installed yesterday, but I'm very happy with the sound, the volume, and the pleasant low internal cabin noise. Highly recommended for those not wanting a loud muffler, but wanting something with a little more attitude vs stock.

I failed 4 times...LOL. The Mach 44 will be much quieter than your Carven Progressive if that's what you're looking for. The Mach 40, which is the recommended bolt on kit would still be quieter than the Progressive, but louder than the 44 (if you keep resonators). I had some louder mufflers and it really got old hearing the drone all the time. I wanted to go just a touch louder than stock, so I selected the Mach 44 and kept my resonators. This combo is just what I was looking for. Maybe too quiet for some, but for me, I'm enjoying driving my truck again.

If you're interested in Solo Performance, I recommend emailing Jeff at Solo for some guidance. He's the owner and very responsive to questions. I ordered mine from Nick (above).

Love the sound of the Mach 44. It's tame, but you know it's there. BTW, I have Moe's 5" tips as well which may add a little more depth to the sound.

Thought I would provide a little update in case anyone out there is looking for a muffler that is just a tad louder than stock with absolutely no drone. I've had the Mach 44 muffler on just shy of a week and I love it. It provides just enough volume to hear the hemi purr with no annoying internal drone. Actually I can barley hear it inside the truck unless I give it some gas, then it comes alive. Outside though, it produces a nice deep note that lets you know it's not the stock exhaust.

I'm not sure how it compares to the Magnaflow 22" but if your thinking about that size muffler, give Solo Performance a look. I know most folks are interested in louder mufflers, but if you're like me, and have had louder mufflers, and are tired of all the racket (but don't necessarily want to go back to the stock muffler), the Mach 44 should definitely be a consideration. Quality is top notch, sound is excellent, and customer service is very good.

How’s the sound inside the cab on the highway at around 75-85?

Every other month I make a 1200 mile round trip and don’t want anything too overwhelming.

It's very quite around 75 - 80 mph (sorry don't run much past 80). It's also quiet around 60-65 where most all my other muffler options have droned. I have 3.92 gears so I'm up around 2000/2100 rpm or so at 75. My trouble zone has always been around 1700-1800 rpm (about 60-65 mph). The Mach 44 is quiet inside the cabin across my entire running rpm ranges.

If you're looking for a tad louder than stock, the Mach 44 is it. If you want a couple notches louder than stock with great sound and very low to no drone, then check out the Borla Pro XS. This was my favorite until the Mach 44. I had absolutely no issues with the Borla outside of having had it on my previous truck for many years and wanting something different. The Mach 44 has a similar sound, but is not quite as loud.

Thanks, I have been considering the Borla Pro muffler swap, but listening to a few videos at highway speeds I was concerned it would be a bit too loud and get annoying on my 10hr 80-85mph trip so I haven't bought one yet. I searched for a sound clip/video of the 44 with resonators like you have but didn't find any. The sound you describe is kinda what I'm looking for and I too have moes 5" tips.

Is the muffler you bought from Nick a weld on or clamp on?....any transition pieces required or was it sized for the stock dual pipe size in/out?

part number?

The Mach 44 is the part number for their 22" muffler with 3" in/2.5" dual out design. It's a weld on muffler. Shop didn't have any issues installing. The Mach 44 is not as loud as the Borla, but the Borla is not overly loud on the highway. Depends on your noise tolerance I guess. I heard the Borla more during normal stop and go city driving than on the highway. It never bothered me on the interstate, but I don't take 10hr trips either. It can get loud when getting on it passing cars, but cruising at 80 shouldn't be too bad.

I couldn't find any good videos of the Mach 44 with resonators either....I just took a chance and it turned out perfect for me. I thought if it wasn't quite loud enough I could just remove my resonators, but I don't think that's going to be necessary. Listen to vids of the Magnaflow 22" (12588) for reference. I think they sound similar with the Solo sounding a touch more open. I've read a few reviews where folks have said the MF 22" has some drone. The Mach 44 has none...at least none that I can hear and I'm pretty sensitive to it.

Good luck. If you decide you want a Pro XS, I have the one I used for about 5 months just sitting around.

JB1...It's been rainy all week here so driving has been slower than normal. Today is sunny so I was able to get out on the interstate and drive in the 75-85 mph range. Exhaust is quiet with no noticeable cabin noise in this speed range. I hear tire and wind noise more than exhaust. I can hear the exhaust the most at around 65, but even at that speed it's barely noticeable. Engine really seems to quiet down around 75-80 mph.

So far this the Mach 44 is the bomb. Really digging the sound/tone and my no drone cabin. Volume is just where I want it. Seems my gas mileage is down some, but it could be my driving since installing the muffler. I'll give it a couple of tanks before I make judgement on that.

Thanks, Nick gave me a quote so all I need to do is make a final decision

Good luck....it's a tough choice. So many different systems out there.
