Went cutting wood today in my neighbours fence lines, I didn’t realize how bumpy the olowed filled was but I carried on. Got all the wood out in 2 trips and I’m not going back in there.
Anyways, I get the second load home and I’m almost done and the ydrauloc fluid on the splitter starts gushing everywhere, filter came loose
I walk around my truck and notice a line of darkish fluid ( almost the colour of old brake fluid, maybe a hint of blue or purple)that has followed the truck up my driveway. It looks to be about 9 to 12 inches inside the passenger side wheel. When I pulled in, I went ahead and then backed in close to the dump trailer. Right now it looks like heavier spots that melted through the snow just beneath the muffler and another spot maybe 3 feet ahead of the muffler, both spots that it melted through could be from the same spot since I would have stopped the truck and then backed up to my final location before splitting the wood.
I checked the power steeering fluid, it’s good and it’s red so not that, I checked the engine oil, it’s super clean and full so not that, I checked the transmission fluid and it’s red and read full at the hot mark even though the truck had been sitting for a good hour and a half. Checked the windshield washer fluid, not that. Checked the brake fluid, it’s down about an inch, unfortunately I don’t know what it was at before.
Any ideas what I should be checking, what fluid this could be?
Tomorrow I will fill the brake fluid reservoir up and start the truck and look for leaks.

Did you check your antifreeze. Did you crawl under and see where the leak is coming from. Is there any liquid in the box leaking onto the ground. Seems like this would be pretty darn simple to figure out.

Maybe a long shot….How about the muffler? When the vehicle is cold my GM mufflers have weep holes for the condensation. Water is a byproduct of combustion, and old mufflers leak rusty water.
Maybe not such a long shot at all, there were 2 drips that had melted completely through to the grass, also a whole bunch of smaller drips coming up my laneway, but 2 spots where it melted a hole in the snow about 2 inches in diameter. The one spot was directly beneath the rear of the muffler and the other spot is very likely where I had stopped to goer out and check how far the dump trailer was from the wood splitter I was backing it in to. I was pulling the load of wood out of the field in 4x4 low and then once I got to the road I drove the 1.5 km hike in high 2 wheel drive. I wonder if working the truck could make this condensation worse? I really hope this is all it is

Check your transfer case .
These types of things are what I was worried about out, and have really no idea about. It’s sad, but I will post a picture to see if I even know whhete the transfer case is. Is it filled with transmission fluid? Or gear oil?

Condensation in the muffler is my guess. In the picture with the grass if it was oil then the grass would be covered in black oil. Go to where the grass is exposed and see if the black stuff that has melted the snow is oily. If not it’s probably carbon in the exhaust system. Any oil that is that black could be from motor or diffs or transfer case motor oil is thin and gear oil is thick and smells like sulfur

If it’s gear oil witch I doubt you should see where it is coming from. But looking at the picture with the grass there is no oil on the grass. So if it’s condensation it would melt right down to the ground and the ground would be black but it wouldn’t stick to the grass

On closer examination of the picture it doesn’t look like any kind of oil to me. Did you have your truck idling for a while. It definitely looks like carbon condensation to me

You didn't tow the log splitter with the truck, did you?

(What I mean is, we KNOW the splitter sprung a leak, so what are the odds it had a slow leak before and that's what you are seeing?)
No, I wasn’t towing the splitter. Thanks for trying though
