Well, in about 7-8 months from now I will be getting rid of my Ram and changing over to a japenese vehicle. Reason being is because 2 months ago I got orders to go back to okinawa japan for a few years. Decided pretty quick that keeping my truck while I'm gone isn't worth it because it'd spend about 99% of it's time sitting in storage and who knows what problems I could run into after sitting for that long without really being used. So I'm hoping that come may/june time frame, that I can sale for something close to what I owe on it but in hopes of not getting disappointed with it's value, I'm expecting to go in the hole a bit but I'm ok with it.

And I have two good reasons why I'm prepared to not break even on the deal. First reason is because when I get over there, I'm going to look to score a good 93 skyline gtr for somewhere around 10k-15k and when it's time for me to come back to the states, I can bring the car back with me without being required to put it through the american conversion kit crap which costs around 16k. But once I bring it back, if I decide to sell it...I could possibly sell it for close to 30k. So yea, that's a really good reason right there :roflsquared:

Second reason is while I'm over there, I can start really saving money again and put it towards whatever vehicle I buy when I get back. I have over 3 1/2 years to make my mind up but I already have some crazy ideas. One's that include going back to a second gen ram, most likely a 2001, and ripping the 360 out for a 408 and going crazy on fixing it up. Ever since I got rid of my 99, I've sorely missed being in a second gen. My other idea's include going back in time to a classic mopar. My options are 70-71 challenger, 71-72 dart demon, 74-76 dart sport with a 360, or finally a 78-79 little red express or a warlock with a 440 that I can convert into a midnite express.

Many options and a long time to make up my mind.

Traitor for planning to sell your truck off. The only way you can redeem yourself is to buy a re-released 70-Series DoubleCab to drive around the Northside of the island.

I'm thinking, once you get used to the speed and performance of a Skyline unless you have a reason to own a truck you may never sell the Skyline. Besides, how many people do you know in the states who drive a skyline, especially a right hand drive? Exactly. I'm not worried... You'll eventually buy another Ram because it seems once you're a truck driver, always a truck driver. It kind of just sticks to you. Lol

I think you're making the right choice selling the Ram.

Get a price on shipping the Ram to Japan with you. Just for reference. If you need to lose more than that to sell it, just take it with you.

It may be a novelty over there and you may actually sell it for a lot more there if you wanted to.

I would imagine having a full size truck in Japan would be a nightmare

Can't take it with me over there, Japan has strict import laws. Vehicles have to be 1970 or older for us to be able to take them. And owning a full size pickup would be a nightmare over there, lol.

SOLID choice on the GTR. My neighbor's 90 is a beast which I have detailed for him, and he let me use it for a couple days last week while my car was out of service. As mentioned above, you won't want to sell it- it even makes a great winter ride.

I'd be curious to see what it might sell for in Japan before selling it. Might be worth importing.

Full size trucks in Japan is a bad idea.

Shipping it to Japan in hopes to sell it there is a worse idea.

If you've ever been to Japan, you'd understand. If not, you won't, and nothing will convince you otherwise unless you go and see the country for yourself.

Something sticks in my head that it's not that easy to bring a Skyline back
I've heard plenty of people who plan to do it but I can't remember why they don't

Back to the "Y" for Yankee plate. Hated driving in Japan; make eye contact and you're lost. Only resort is the American wave (wipers switch on the left). The roads are just too crowded with slow movers.

Those are being sold in main land japan. I'm going to a tiny little island called okinawa. And with this being my second time going over there, I can tell you that no one would want it unless I sold it to another american and they drove it on base only. Not including the base, there's only one road on the island where the truck would do alright on but except to go back on base or to another base....that road is the only pavement the truck would be able to go on because it's too big for all side roads and way to big for any parking lot. Plus since the military knows the import laws and would not cover the costs of shipping it there, you'd lose thousands.

One big reason why they didn't/don't bring the back is probably because they bought one that is too new to be able to come over here without going through the expensive conversion that is required when importing a vehicle from japan. Plus, some vehicles can't be imported period until it reaches a certain age. Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49, part 591.5(i) has everything under importing.

So skylines have to be at least 25 years old to be imported to the us and 2014 is the year that 1989 R32's came be imported. When I come back from japan, I'll be able to bring back a 1993 R33.

That is an okay reason to be Ram less. I am glad they don't allow those rigs into country's like that or vice versa in some ways. But then I think about all the diesel powered vehicles we miss out on for similar or same import restrictions and that sucks. It will be to have a sweet old car like that. I am all about old Mopars over old Asian cars but I admit some of those little race cars are sick and really no reason to hate on any car that is nice. Good luck with everything.
