Hello all,
I have a 2015 Ram 1500 and would like to get a spare key for it. I bought it used and it only came with the remote/fob and the key that is inside the fob.

I take the truck on camping trips and stuff, and would really like a key that I could keep stashed under the truck at all times.

I checked with the local dealer and they say a "chip key" (non remote) is not available for my truck, and they want $170 for remote fob key, and $70 for programming. 250ish seems awfully steep for a spare key!

Are there any other good hide-a-key options?
Thanks.

Chances are this is your only option. New keys are insanely expensive

Check with local locksmiths. Most of them can program the new fobs and it's a lot cheaper then getting it from the dealership.

I found this in another thread.....

"So, there are 2 options shown in this picture, a full function fob, and a no frills POD Key, or "lollipop" key as my dealer called it. Both will get you in the door and start the truck."

you can have a key made that will unlock the doors only. Throw your fob inside your console lock the doors and have the key to unlock door with you. Or grab a hide a key and stash it. Lots of little places to store a key

just be careful if you have the "touch" handles that unlock the truck when you grab the handles.... I think if you have a spare FOB close enough it will allow anyone to walk up and open your truck.... and drive off if you have push to start option.

Buy one on amazon https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-...D:+GQ4-53T&dpPl=1&dpID=31xpkZN5svL&ref=plSrch
As long as it is an fcc id GQ4-53T fob, it will work. As far as paying to have it programmed, one way or another, there’s no way around that cost, whether you find a locksmith, the dealer, or doing it yourself.

You would pretty much have to give that person a piggyback ride to your door handle for that to happen.

Thanks, yes, I should have. But I bought the truck from a used car dealer and they only had one key. Someone, somewhere, has the other one.

Thank you. I ask the dealer if the lollipop was available for my truck. He checked around and said something about not for mine... I hope it is though, it would be perfect.

That's a great idea, thank you. Will from now on stash the remote and take the door key. Worst case I'd have to brake a window, still much better than trying to hike out of the desert!

Buy one on amazon https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-3-Button-Dodge-Fobik-Smartkey/dp/B07CTB1ZKN/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1546457240&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=Replacement+3-Button+Dodge+Ram+Fobik+Smartkey+FCC+ID:+GQ4-53T&dpPl=1&dpID=31xpkZN5svL&ref=plSrch

$13 bucks for a key!!!! What the heck, the dealer is charging $150. I'd be OK paying 14 + 125 programming, as shown on Amazon, but! I do already have AlfaOBD so I could take a shot at it myself. Very cool.

Any Y157 to Y170 with the 84GRV cut to your key code will open the doors. As mentioned, the lollipop Y170 can be programmed to also start the truck. See the alfaOBD thread to learn how to do it yourself. You will need to get the 4 digit PIN from the dealer with proof of ownership.

Thank you! I do have AlfaOBD so I'll give it a shot. Like I said the dealer says not lollipop for my truck, but maybe I'll try to program one myself.

Are the Y157 to Y170 part numbers for the keys? ...I'm not quite following you there.

Thank you so much guys!!!!

Y157 to Y170 are generic numbers for blanks you can search for on eBay or Amazon. Chrysler has been using the 84GRV key blade since 1994. The ignition node on the dash does not have traditional tumblers and springs and you could use a blank uncut key that has been programmed to start the engine. To open the door, you need a key blade that has been cut to your code because there are tumblers in that lock. The Y170 blank will have a chip that can be programmed to your truck.

I've got backup keys!!!!

I ordered these from Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071GVWPLM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got the key code from the dealer

I used AlfaOBD and This OBD2 bluetooth adapter. Already had them, which is awesome.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011NSX27A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Followed these instructions
https://www.ramforum.com/threads/alfaobd.123982/page-90#post-1864604

...and the Lollipop keys start the truck! Now I just need them cut to match my existing one so they'll open the door.

Only hangup with anything was trying to get the Key Code from the dealer. I ask the parts guy very nicely but he said he was told that I'd have to have the Service department make a key for me. Yep $250 bucks.
Went over to the service department and ask for the code. They said only the parts department had it.
Went back to parts and ask "can I pay you guys for the code? That way we'll all be happy?" He checked with someone and they gave me the code for $30 bucks.
...kind of BS, but they did spend some time on it, and I can live with the $30 fee.

So, my tip, if the dealer refuses to give you the code, offer to pay for it. It sure beats $250 for 1 key.

Thanks all for the help, I am now a happy camper.
