i have the 20 inch factory rims and noticed my spare is the 17 inch. i assumed the spare would also be a 20 but for some reason it's not so my question is can it actually be used being that much smaller? if not i'm considering looking for a cheap 20 but will a 20 even fit under there?

The size of the rim isn't what is important. Is the overall diameter of the spare tire and wheel the same as the 20" rim and tire on your truck?

If it is the stock 17" spare, yes.

i don't know jack about tires but the tires are P275/60R20 and the spare is P235/85R17. i'm assuming the 85 means it's a bigger but i'm not sure if it works out to be the same size or not

Mine came with a 17 steel wheel and a regular tire not a temp tire.
Maybe that is a thing with the Tradesman package?

Difference of .3 inches

that's what i was worried about. i suppose it's a small enough difference i can use it if i really have to but i'm guessing i wouldn't be able to go very fast

That amount of difference (0.3") in diameter is nothing to worry about. The speed would need to be limited if it is not a regular tire and is a temporary spare.

How often do you really use it anyway? They all should be temporary even if they don't say it haha. I have 90k+ and mine has never been down I just check the psi on it a couple times a year and it is probably rusted to my truck.

usually once every 2 years or so. living in the middle of nowhere people leave all sorts of crap on the road and it's fairly common to get a nail every so often

i don't see any mention of it being temporary on the tire but can't see it very well so will have to pull it out one day

I picked up a chunk of metal in one of my tires and had to switch to my spare, same spare as you. I also have 20" factory wheels. I will say this, the spare jack is absolute junk. Fully extended it wouldn't lift my truck high enough to get the spare on. Luckily I was a few doors down from a muffler shop and I borrowed their jack.

I forgot the factory tires are Passenger tires so a lot more likely to let something through at least that is what it is like in my experience. I would rather have full size spare but think the temp spare is okay for most people.

i was wondering about that too since the truck is a bit higher with the 20s. might have to throw a few blocks of wood under to get it higher
