Today I filled my tank like I do every Friday and had my truck stall on me twice before I got on the freeway. When I filled up, the pump stopped at 8.33gal and I thought that was a bit low so I pulled the handle again and had it stop at 8.40gal. I'm not in the habit of topping off as I learned my lesson years ago about it messing with the EVAP system something fierce.

As I was at the intersection stopped and waiting to turn, I stalled and heard a single diesel knock, both of which I thought were odd as this truck had never had any similar issues before. It started up right away after I shifted into neutral. One more light turning on to the freeway and I stopped then accelerated into the turn and stalled again, exactly the same and it started up right away again.

No further issues on the rest of the trip home. I put it on the scanner after I parked and only pulled P0633 (old code related to the key fob/security, dealership can't/won't clear it) and P1521 (wrong oil viscosity, another old code, likely related to the oil temperature sensor at the filter). No other codes showed up whatsoever.

The stalling is something altogether new, I know the gas at Costco here varies greatly in quality but it is the best price around my side of town by about a nickel. I'm wondering if I caused an issue by "topping off", and that was something the previous owners did regularly. I'll be tracking this, obviously, and just wanted to see if anybody here ever experienced something similar or has an idea of what to keep an eye on.

As you say, I would suspect the quality of the fuel. And a nickel a gallon is not a great savings. However, almost all of the fuel from the various refineries flow through the same pipelines to common tanks where BP, Exxon, Texaco, and all the others get mixed together.
