Okay guys I'm new to the forums because I am in desperate need of help after having my local resources fail me. I am having a inconvenience of starting my truck. So I have to press the button multiple times to start the truck. I once was able to press it once and start the vehicle but due to wear and tear, I'm assuming, it has become faulty. Can anyone identify what this piece is attached to the key? I've gone to the dealer and they have told me it was an aftermarket piece. Im the 2nd owner so I dont really know anything that was installed. I've gone to get it removed but the guys couldnt find the part to remove. If anyone can identify this please and thank you, or at least guide me to the solution.

I think a place like car toys or something would be more help. Those little fobs are not factory parts for your dodge. Someone added on the remote start for it.

Captain Obvious asks: Have you thought to replace the batteries?

If you have a key, then your golden, I would say the aftermarket system is going bad and it needs to be replaced. my $0.02

is there any writting on the keychain things to give a hint as to what company even made it?

Yes I have replaced the batteries and was luckily able to find only one casing but it didnt help much. I would replace the after market system but I dont know exactly what it is.
There is absolutely no writing on the casing or the chip board except for the type of batteries it requires.

an out there idea... have you tried the google app on your phone that will scan a picture into the internet and search for it that way?

Also, when it worked before... did you have to use it before using the key? would pressing the button make any noise? Was there any sounds coming from under the hood? Would clicking the remote while the engine was running do anything?

Just tried that lol.

It still works at the moment it just takes multiple attempts to actually get my truck going. I have to press the button and it would not make any noise. I was able to turn the key but the engine wouldnt start. No noise whatsoever was made to my observations, but the weird thing is that the engine light is on until the vehicle turns on... is that normal?

Do you have power locks in your truck? I had an old car that had little single "arm/de-arm" remotes like that that would lock the doors and enable the ignition kill feature. That could very well be why your vehicle wont start... If pressing the button again would de-activate the kill feature and "attempt" to unlock the doors could explain why the lights are turning on till the engine is running. I ask because if you do have power locks that work from inside the truck... are the lock motors working? Just trying to get as much info as possible.

Yes I do and everything works. I have to press the FOB then try to start the engine, usually takes 4-6 times to get it going. I appreciate all your help btw.

These FOBs get sorta oily after a while. Like a TV remote. Try spraying some contact cleaner on both the board and the rubber pads under the button. Make sure there are no oily or gummy residue between both contact surfaces, reassemble the whole thing and try.

I've been searching and i cannot figure out who makes the remote. Figured If I could find the maker I could easily find out what type remote it is and what its intended to do. No luck on my end.

Not sure if they would charge you or not but I would take it somewhere that installed car security systems. I would explain what it does and see if they can give it a once over to spot anything out of the ordinary. I mean I would assume IF a company would install a new system they would have to know what to look at to ensure the old system is completely removed and doesn’t interfere.

Yeah that's what I've done before but they couldn't find it. I even bought an alarm system with them agreeing to remove this piece but they ended up installing the alarm then telling me they coulddnt find it so I made them take out the worm system they installed lol Im going to have to pay the dealership around $400 for them to find it if worse comes to worst.

Take your kick panels and everything under the steering wheel off to expose all of your ignition wiring going up towards your steering wheel and ignition. If it really is a remote start then it should be tied into the factory wiring somewhere in that area. If you see a bunch of wires spliced together that don't look factory, follow them and they'll take you to the module. I know you said you had someone look but who knows if they even looked in the right spot

There is going to be a switch somewhere in your engine bay that disables the remote start if the hood is open. Usually it is near the hood release. Trace the wiring from that switch to the remote start module.
