When going about 10mph and doing a 90 degree turn. For example sitting at stop light and then turning left.

It feels like a click clunk is coming from the front end of the truck during the turn

It doesn’t happen all the time and of course I took it to the dealer and they nor I could replicate the issue

Obviously driving home it happens again and I get that click/clunk sound

Just curious...has anybody else experienced this type of issue and if so. What the hell is causing it because I’m losing my mind. Lol.

sounds like early onset of ball joint failure syndrome. mine is doing it to but its a rare, like once a week, occurrence. i keep forgetting about it whenever i have a chance to replace it and you have just reminded me about it so thank you

As Nick said, i myself would be looking at the ball joints, and also check the swaybar links. Re-torque ALL your wheels just to rule that out. (130ftlbs)
If you haven`t had any brake work done, could be a pad getting low and chucking within the caliper bracket.

It's highly unlikely it's the ball joints at 20k but since it's within the 3yr/36k have it inspected and handled under warranty. Yeah, it's possible but it's also possible it could be a unit bearing on the front hub, or like I found out on my ride w 41k, a loose body mount.

I have something "similar" going on with my 2017 Ram 1500 (3,400 miles) that I just noticed last week. Can't imagine what it causing my issue; maybe the U-joints in the steering column?

I have a slightly-curved, barely-sloped driveway. In order to back out without running over the grass, I have to turn the steering wheel a few degrees to the left. When I get to the end of my driveway and lightly apply the brakes, while the steering wheel is still turned left, I hear a faint "clunk" that I also feel through the steering wheel.

I need to take the truck back to the dealer to have this looked at, but I have a feeling this is one of those problems that's going to be impossible to replicate. For some crazy reason, it only happens when backing out of my driveway........If the dealer can't fix it, I guess I'll have to move! :p

Ever since I bought the truck new back in Dec 2017, I've noticed a faint creaking or rubbing-type noise under the dash anytime I turn the steering wheel either direction, but mainly to the left. Since it was winter when I bought the truck, I figured the noise might be because the rubber boot, where the steering column goes through the firewall, was cold. It's now summer and HOT and I can still hear the rubbing sound, so it wasn't being caused by the cold weather. Now, I'm wondering if these two issues might be related.

steering stops rubbing slightly as you are moving during a sharp turn possibly ?

THAT specific clunk is usually the stopper crescent on the back of the spindles beating/grinding on the stop pegs. See the image where the shiny parts are and how the stoppers are all ground up. It's designed to prevent too much deflection on the front end. You'd be surprised at how many trucks have this issue. Toyota even made a TSB out of it and they put plastic caps on top of the stopper pegs so those grind differently than the metal to metal. When someone complains and they have a ton of miles and the campaign fix was done you charge $10 + install the replacement parts since it's out of warranty by then. They're called "Knuckle Stoppers".

That noise is usually the dash to steering and firewall brace.

Check your control arm bolts, upper and lower, I had a upper loose, and it would clunk on hard turns.

Hi Grant211,

You've got some great advice here. Let me know if you decide to get this looked at by the dealer. We're available via direct message and would be glad to get this over to a Case Specialist for further handling.

Thank you. As I stated previously the dealer already checked it and couldn’t find anything. I will be going back to the dealership to basically show them all these suggestions and see if that works on correcting the issue. .

Thanks again.
