I have a 2009 2500 5.7 4WD with 115k miles. I think it has original shocks and steering dampener (I am 2nd owner) which I am going to replace. Ive pretty much settled on Bilstein shocks. I’ve been reading over the forums about the dampener and many have said not to bother replacing the it because it isn’t needed, and also because it “masks” front end problems.
Here is the question: If the dampener (a) isn’t needed, and (b) covers up other front end issues, then why is the truck designed with a dampener? What do the engineers not know?
