Have a 2018 with the large touch screen. Not sure what model that is called but have the full length console. Today as I was driving my volume suddenly went to max. The volume indicator still showed 9 or whatever it was on but anything other than 0 is full blast. 0 is no sound. 1 and anything else is full blast. No warranty. Possibly an update gone bad?
I tried to find the software version or any other info but couldn't figure out how to get there.

Help?

Hold temperature up, temperature down, and defrost to enter into dealership mode. You are looking for this screen (post a picture of it or conversely, write out what it says you have for "Application Version")...

We had the same radio and exact same issue on our 2019 Charger. The dealer ended up having to replace the radio.

The only way we could control the volume was by turning off the car and restarting it. Not sure if it's the same thing.

Read online where shutting it off for 30 minutes or so fixes it. Went out about 1 hour after I got home and started it up and its back to normal now...for now...lol
Thanks. Will try to get that version number tomorrow

I have a 2014 LS and I swapped the original 8.4 VP3 for a VP4 with Navigation and HD radio. I also upgraded to the lastest firmware and maps. Ever since then, it freezes at times....like I will have 103.5 playing.....press a different radio station, it will highlight that station but switch back to 103.5....unless I use the search arrows, then it will move to different stations. Sometimes the entire radio just freezes and I lose back up and all. Sometimes it will freeze and the music will just stay at one constant volume without changes.

To resolve this, I will hold the volume and tune buttons in for a 20 seconds until it reboots. Sometimes this fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, then I just go do the factory reset button and that works...but I lose all of my saved favorites, etc.

I was hoping it was the screen....but I have a feeling my radio is just going bad....it was used, so wouldn't surprise me. Anyone have this happen?

My 2016 Ram 8.4 AN radio is acting up.
It changes FM stations, always the same stations

But, i don't know if it is actually the radio or my hands, they are numb, so i may be touching buttons or the screen & don't feel it

I learned today, that my right arm has Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, it is less severe in my Left Hand

It's possible the radio is overheating causing the lack of response. I had an RA4 that would get too hot to touch the back (picture taking a hot container out of the microwave hot). If you have the opportunity, take the screws out of the bezel and pop it off to access the back of the radio quickly. Put it back together without the screws and next time it freezes just pop the bezel off to quickly access the back of the radio to feel it's temperature.

I certainly will try this and thank you for the suggestion. But OK, lets say its REALLY HOT....what to do then? Put a fan on it? More heat sinks? What did you do?

I actually sold that radio for cheap to a member letting them know what I "would have done" but with my UAQ I did exactly that. I added two fans, a fiberglass heat shield between the screen and radio, and replaced the OEM thermal pads inside...with these additions I honestly feel like the radio is consistently snappy in it's response and it prevents "ghost touching" and further delamination on this screen (which I got from another member who was getting ready to throw it in the trash).

THAT is awesome! I love the ingenuity! Unfortunately, pretty sure mine is not overheating. Had to pick up my daughter from HS at 0200 this morning (Bands of America competition return). It is only 3 miles from where we live. My radio froze once on the way there and once on the way back. Both instances were different and it was 57 degrees outside, give or take. I have already filed a claim to return the radio to company I purchased it from on Ebay. It has been a long, long time since I have had to return anything from there. Even my stock radio (8.4 VP3) did crash occasionally, but I am talking once every few months or so, and the occasional black screen on start up.

Going to go with a Android aftermarket solution, or at least I hope it is a solution.

Thank you again for your help, pics and ingenuity!

Just a bit of advice from experimenting with portable android units. STAY AWAY from Carpuride....absolute trash, IMO. Now...Carpugo....T3 Pro....spot on and works every single time I use it or start my truck. Heat doesn't affect and does EXACTLY what it says it will do. Pricey, but you get what you pay for.
