Ordered a 2016 Ram Sport 1500 with the upgraded Alpine System with the Sub...says it puts out 500+ watts of power...Thoughts about the sound of the system if anyone has it as the added option

Not sure exactly what you are referring to but my 2500 Laramie has an Alpine system and while I'm not a stereo guy it seems great and quite loud if needed. What system are you specifically referring to. Is there more of an upgrade that can be factory ordered.

I think it's the same one you have skrap. Not sure what he really wants to know. It sounds good. I like it.

Now, if you are planning on upgrades to the sound system at all, don't get the Alpine system. If you're a big stereo guy, then you won't like it and will want to start changing it. The way it's set up, it limits your upgrade possibilities and will just cause you to spend more money. Stick with the base stereo system and upgrade from there.

If you're not the type to upgrade your sound system, then go for it. You'll more than likely enjoy it. For what it is, from the factory, it sounds pretty good to me. But everyone has their own opinion and each one is different.

I'm a pretty big audiophile... Not so huge that I'd spend thousands to upgrade a stock system, but I did spend $750 to upgrade the stock one on my last ram as I just couldn't deal with the factory cheap 6x9's. That being said, I have the Alpine and am quite pleased with it. It took some tweaking to get it just right for me, but it's a nice sound. This is one of those areas where opinions vary though, as many guys who use their systems to vibrate the bolts loose on their rust buckets think their systems sound great too.

ive been pretty impressed with it...one of the better stock stereos ive ever had. I am changing out the sub speaker and the dash speakers but they are very inexpensive. Overall im happy i did the upgrade.

There are people that upgrade it, but I am very happy with it. I can hear it, it is loud if I want it to be. I like my alpine emblem at the top of my dash... what more could you want

The Alpine system in the truck sounds amazing for a factory system. Had the Alpine in my Durango, but this system is far better matched to the cabin.

If you're an audiophile then no factory system will ever be good enough for you, but it's not a bad system and a much better upgrade over the base radio. Many people have upgraded the sub since it's rather anemic but everything else does alright as long as you're just looking for loud and not clarity.

Agreed about the sub. It adds a lot of low end presence and punch, but it's not a pants kicker. It's fine for me since my pants kicker is in the house and explosions sound real. You can boost it up in the EQ, but you can only go so far before the overall sound starts to get muddy.

i like mine as well, in my last ram i put in an alpine head unit and it sounded pretty good, when i bought this one i was actually happy with it so i will leave it. i will say that i dont really care for the sub under the passenger rear seat as i like my space.

What are you going to for dash speakers. Looking for something with more highs.

The Kicker dash speakers are a direct replacement and are said to be very good for the price. Drop in, plug and play.

This is not true. The kicker / mopar plug and play speakers are not designed for the alpine system. The alpine system is a 2ohm system, while the non-alpine stereo on the rams is a 4 ohm system. The kicker speakers are 4 ohm. Yes they will work and they will be more clear than the alpine speakers, but the max volume of the kicker speakers will be a lot less. Without getting into technical details, you need to find speakers that run at 2ohm's not 4. It sucks though, because 2 ohm speakers are few and far between and there are only a few out there that will fit the ram truck.

with all this being said, i did the pioneer sub upgrade and the dash upgrade. Both made nice differences for a very fair price. I think i paid about $60 for the sub and about $70 for the dash speaker.

I will also be replacing the rear 6x9's with some 2 ohm jbl 2 way 6x9's to really bring the highs out of this stereo. do not try to get better highs out of the front 6x9's, as they are only for bass. For about $200 total, my system sounds a lot better than the stock "upgarded" alpine system.

Dont get me wrong, the apline system is much nicer than the non-alpine, but no matter what, its still a mass produced, cost concience oem stero in a vehicle. Its only going to be so good......

here is some of the speakers suggested in the threads.

Infinity REF-3002cfx 3.5" dash speaker ( 3 ohm, not 4 ohm. Dont worry, 3 ohm is ok in this application, you really want to get as close to 2 ohms as you can. The sensitivity DB level of these speakers is very high, so since they are 3 ohm and have a high DB level, they will be much clearer and a tad louder than the stock alpine dash speakers ).

JBL GX302 3.5" These dash speakers are 2.3 ohm ( about as close to 2 ohm as you are gonna get ) but their sensitivity DB level is a little below the infinity speakers above. Probably just a tad louder than the infinity speakers and very clear as well.

thats fine, but they are 4 ohm, not 2. This has been talked about by many audiophiles on this site that point out that the kicker upgardes are 4 ohm and not 2. They say that if anybody really wants to upgrade the alpine system as best they can, you need to go out and get quality 2 ohm aftermarket replacements.

I'm pretty sure its one oof those perplexing questions as to why kicker/mopar made replacement speakers for the trucks to help upgarade the sound, why didnt they make a true 2ohm version to help upgrade the alpine system too.

Maybe it makes them look silly and makes the alpine looks like not as good of an upgrade as it could have been,.

coming from someone who has built and competed in audio competitions for SQ. This is one of the first stereos i have not touched in my vehicles. i believe the alpine actually sounds good for what it is. it does take some tweaking to get it to sound good but it can be done.

if you plan to switch out the alpine eventually dont spend the extra to get it now as it makes it a little more difficult to change things later.
