How far can you go and still pass a visual smog inspection?
99 2500 4x4 ex cab long box, 5.9 Magnum 388,751mi right now. Used for towing 6-8000K lbs.
Am refreshing a Y2K 5.9 for it and am wondering if the stock ECM can handle shorty headers, cat back exhaust, cold air or even a stoker kit.
Where do you hit the wall where the ECM is concerned?
I don't expect a ton of extra power here especially now that I have the yearly visual smog inspection.
Thanks for your help

Cam and strokers are your limitations. It'll do okay with everything else, but a flash tuner will help.

Black Cody is running a SC with a mild cam. Anything more than what he has requires custom tuning from what I've seen

The dakota guys boost their motors while retaining the stock pcm. Unless you just want the ability to self tune, the stock pcm will do whatever you tell it to. Just be weary as some people report that frequent tune flashing can shorten the life of the pcm.

Cold Air and shorty headers on the way from Summit. Can I also use higher lift rocker arms to mimic a small cam?
And no boost as 1st won't pass visual smog inspection this January and second we don't have pump gas that will support boost with a 24' trailer with the NH 785 skid steer on it, found that out the hard way.
