I went to Advance to get replacement bulbs for my 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 (non-sport) the crossrefernce said it took 9007 bulbs so I got them when I started changing thems i noticed I was pulling 9004 bulbs out so I thought the wrong bulbs got put in it, when I changed the bulbs to the 9007 and the high beams were very dim and the low beams were brighter than the old 9004 bulbs ever were. Then the next day they would not work at all so now I am confused greatly... which bulb is right i changed them again back to the 9004 and have no issues at all. also with the 9007 bulbs the bright indicator stayed on all the time. any help would be great.

The correct bulbs for the single bulb headlamps are the 9004's. The problem is that even though the 9004's and the 9007's use the same plug, they are wired differently. Oddly enough, the Sport 2 bulb headlights use 9007's in the low beam (outers), and 9004's in the hi beam (inners). Also odd is that on the Sports even though the hi beams use the dual filament 9004's the factory wiring doesn't fire the low beam filaments on low or hi beam.

Here's a link that explains the difference in the bulbs.

There are a couple threads in the 2nd gen exterior forum about headlights.

I recently changed my headlight bulbs to LED (9004 CAN BUS) and my fog lights (896 LED). I have the issue of when the Fogs are on my headlights stay on high, the high beam dash indicator goes off but bulbs do not change beams. Do i need to put resistors in one each side? I am unsure of what could cause this? Everything is in OEM housings.
