hi everyone I am in of your help! I am new to this forum so forgive me if this has been discussed before.. My 2012 ram 1500 was stolen and my insurance company is calling me a liar.( I am not) I am devastated!! they say that with the chip key the truck is "unstealable" well odiously not as it happened to me. I have both key.. Now what I am asking is anyone has had any sort of the same issue? Speaking with people some say it is possible and some say not. any thoughts.. The police have told me it nothing is "unstalable"

I'd contact a couple of dealers and ask their opinions (if they say yes have them put it into writing and contact dodge/ram and ask them if it's possible. If they say yes have them put it in writing. Once the insurance company agrees with you and buys you a new truck, get rid of them and find a different insurance company

Nothing is unstealable. All they need is a new key and some programming on a laptop. Gone in 60 seconds comes to mind.

Your insurance company doesn't get to not pay you with some baseless claim. You have a police report. I'd talk to a lawyer.

i agree you may need to get a lawyer involved. there are "black box" units out there that can unlock a vehicle. google it there are videos where people just walk up to cars and open them like they own them. all it takes is a tow truck also.

If anything these are probably easier to steal than some of the vehicles form the 90's because the steering wheel column lock is electronically controlled.

Someone could easily rip the code from your key with the right hardware as you walk by them too. Then they would just broadcast that code near the keyhole, and turn the keyhole with their finger.

Sounds to me like your insurance company just doesn't want to shell out the cash. 1500ram12 is on a good track, Chrysler may even be able to give a few examples of other stolen vehicles too.

I think that the only way a insurance company can deny you is if it was found that you left the keys in the truck or it was left running while you were not in the vehicle. With the new push to start if I remember right, even if you left the vehicle running and had the key with you, it still can be put in drive. Not sure if there is a certain time or distance that can be driven without the key in the vehicle.

I have a feeling that the full story hasn't been presented yet. My bet there is more to the insurance carriers reasons besides just the key claim presented by the poster.

You can keep driving until you shut it off i think, ive been pretty far with mine with no key fob to try it, i like that you can keep it running and lock the doors, nothing is unstealable

The insurance company doesn't get to decide if the truck is stolen. You reported it stolen and you have a police report I assume.
Therefore the truck is stolen.

Yes you can drive till you shut it off, it's a saftey thing can't be going down the highway and it just shut off.

Police report and both keys the insurance company doesn't have a leg to stand on.

All it takes is ripping your VIN and a shady tech at a dealer taking cash on the side.

To say it is unstealable is silly. A tweaker with a screwdriver may not make off with it but all you need is the vin and you can have a key cut. A laptop to program the fob and you are off.

Fob has to be programmed to the truck in the truck. Can't just get one at dealer without the truck.
