Got a strange coolant leak. Been chasing this for awhile and finally cleaned up the block to trace my leak down. I did cam/lifters some time ago so the water pump and timing cover was removed. Since then Ive had a leak. The leak appears to be coming from between the timing cover and the block but it also has a bolt that goes through the water, timing cover then into the block. Any ideas on how this is leaking? Its not coming from the water pump because the head for the bolt isn't wet, just the block and cover. Does this bolt some how interact with a coolant passage? Could I just use some thread sealer to see if It would stop the leak?

Could be a timing cover gasket issue, I'm sure you checked the torque on that bolt.

You are correct. After cleaning and more poking around I found that the coolant was traveling down to that bolt. Its been leaking around the coolant passage that goes through the timing cover. I double checked the torque on the those bolts and it actually got worse. I'm removing the timing cover so I can replace the gasket, probably add some high temp gasket maker while I'm in there.
