So I'm thinking about doing a sub upgrade. Currently I have the MTX thunderform with the very basic MTX 10's that you can get the box with. The subs are 8ohms wired for 4ohms. I also have a single ten box that a friend gave me, but it is pretty much made for shallow mount woofers due to the lack of air volume.

My amp, Alpine MRX-V70, can put out 350watts RMS on the sub channel if ran at 2ohms. Currently, with the MTX box it's running at 250watts RMS.

So do I get a shallow mount 10 that you are able to wire for 2ohms and free up a covey whole back there for some more storage or do I get some sort of two 10's arrangement for 2ohms for the thunderform?

I'd like suggestions on which speakers to get too.

Thanks Guys, you are the best!

The most important thing is the enclosure volume. Then the mounting depth available.
This determines what sub and then what amplifier to go with.

^^this
sonic says the internal volume of the thunderform is 1.5cu/ft total....not a lot of room. I did not see the mounting depth. That needs to be known as well.
.75 cu/ft (before sub displacement) is do-able....but what's going to make or break this will be finding the appropriate sub for this box....i'll search

ish not much air space. Um the JL 10TW3s would work but I think they like all of that .75 cubes and they are 3in deep IIRC. How much mounting depth do you have?

The mounting depth on the thunderform is 7." I'm going to have to look up more info on the single 10, as their website doesn't give a lot of info on that box. If I went with the single 10 I was thinking the JL 10TW3-D4 or the Kicker 40CWRT101.

Best I can tell that single 10 box isn't that great. The site list it at mounting depth as 6 inches, but an air volume of only 0.5.... It's wierd though because they show two different designs and I have the one that looks like it has more air volume than the other.

I'm also going to put some extra power to my 3.5's. Currently they are only running off of the headunit. I'm thinking I'll run them parallel with the rears for 2ohms. Mostly I'm just trying to fill in some holes in the sound. I should have went with components......Or did something crazy like big speaker, tiny hole guy, with 8's in the doors. OH MY GOD that system has to sound amazing.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Yea, the JL is $275ish and the Kicker is $169. Course if I sell my thunderform it would offset the cost of the ten.

The thunderform is "LIKE NEW!"

I'm having a hard time looking them up. Do you have a link or could you find one for me?

The Kicker will for sure be easier to find cause right now I can't pull anything up on a Gov't computer about the audiomobile gts.
I am not familiar with that person now you have peaked my interest and will have to do a search lol.

LMAO, yep the ole govt. computer is my problem too. That's too funny.

The kicker on paper seems to be the better sub for my single 10 box compared to the JL.

yeah JL's like big boxes every single one that I've had needed .25-.5 cubes bigger than recommended when sealed.

Well I think I'll try the single kicker 10 dual 1ohm voice coil. If I don't like it I still have the thunderform to fall back on. If I do like it I'll sell the thunderform. Should be pretty easy to sell the thunderform especially since it already comes with subs. I've seen a thunderform with 2 alpine type R's in it, but if I went that route I'd most likely go with type S's due to only having 350watts to play with. I'm sort of regretting going with the amp I bought. It would have been better I think to go with a two amp set up with more power at 4ohms. Maybe a six channel and a mono for the subs.

Yeah IMO alpine made those smaller amps to just tease a guy with great price point and to get them to want more power down the road lol. My requirments when amp hunting is I try to double what I think I need at the moment so I can upgrade later.

It should help a good bit when I start 2ohm-ing speaker channels. I just hope 2 ohms on the sub channel and 2 ohms on one of the front or rears doesn't hurt the amp. I really think I'm going to like some power going to those JL 3.5's. When I was having problems with one of the type R 6x9's I was running around town with just the 3.5's running off of the head unit and my subs and I thought dang those little things do sound good.

It shouldn't hurt the amp it was built to do that unless you are talking about bridging it into a 2ohm load. The cool thing about 5 ch amps is that they tend to have two seperate sections to them. Meaning 4ch has its own power supply xovers and things like that and the sub amp is same way(maybe wrong on the power supply), but it really is two seperate amps in one heat sink.

Those JL's will scream at 2ohms lol if they start to get harsh cut the gain down and it will mellow out a lot.

He was an arrogant, ego maniac back in 2002-2004 era when he ran Audiomobile into the ground, worked for another company, he gave them a bad rep, then somehow ended back at Audiomobile.
Real class act....LOL

If you never meet him, your not missing anything.
