Sub "enclosure" question

This might be a really stupid question, and if so I'm sure it won't be my last. Could you mount a 10" sub under the back seat on the passenger side using the storage area for the bottom of the box and MDF for the top? What I'm thinking is cutting an MDF top like you would for a normal box and then putting weather stripping or something to seal it better and screw it straight to the underseat storage. Wouldn't that accomplish about the same thing as creating a thin layer of fiberglass on the bottom? What issues are there with this approach?

it has been done before. The key will be in getting a good seal.

You might be able to, but I dont think it would sound good....it would be hard to get the seal you need.

I made my own custom boxes for the rear seat compartment.

Look for my build thread, im actually still not finished with them but they are part fiberglass and mdf. I just got my carpet in and im about to finish them up.

yes you can, but make sure it sealed as best as you can, we have done dual 10's under our Dodge 4 door tow trucks.

maybe, i just did mine with mdf and fiberglass last week. It isnt hard at all, and barely cost anything, I would definitely look into it.

If that is the route you are going to go I would look at some free-air subs. Usually meant to just mount in a rear deck or anytime you can't make a box, I think they might work well for this type of install. And then you don't have to worry about sealing it at all. I have never heard one, so I don't know the quality, but I do know reputable manufacturers make them, so if they were that bad I don't think companies like JL would make them.

Freeairs are for like an infinite baffle, like 6x9's in the rear deck, or doors of a car. You still need to seal the front waves from the rear waves, or you'll have cancellation. You may not have to seal them on this enclosure like metioned above, but you still need them some what sealed for seperation. You can use most subs as they sometimes can be used for enclosure or freeair, just needs the harder suspension.
